Racism in Sports???

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_yl...yehudson041210

just came across this article. i am not ignorant to the fact that racism does exist in real world situations, but i really don't think it exist in sport, esp. the big 3 where alot of the athletes are minorities. any thoughts???

Its funny because we were just talking about this indirectly in a way last week. I was talking to a few of the very well respected members here, in the fantasy baseball league chatroom and somehow this subject came up. We were more discussing racism and racial slurs used by bettors but along similar lines I think. It is an everyday fact of life still whether we like it or not. I personally believe that it shouldn't matter, but I think you'd be fooling yourself if you are believing there aren't some out there that don't feel the same way. Could definitely see a gm think twice if he had a black and a white player of the exact same skill set, that race or upbringing didn't play into his decision, one way or the other. Also think this may be a topic for safe haven here since this is a very delicate subject and I could see this taking off in a bad direction, lol

this guy is a fkn retard. Jermaine Dye and Gary Sheffield are old as fk and both injury prone. If Jermaine Dye doesnt want to "uproot his family for the summer" for 4 million dollars to go play with the Nats, then ****!!!!!! him.

There are racist people out there, but thats not why these fuktards arent playing. Its cuz they think theyre worth more than they actually are.

When something close to 40 % of NCAA assistant coaches are black and 50% of the players are black, and 11 of the 117+ head coaching jobs are held by blacks.....I would say racism still exists in sports......

wow? besides possibly relating to the players,

theres nothing that inherently says because most of the players on the team are black the coach must be black.

or conversely because your a black coach coaching black players youll do a better job than a white coach could with black players

sorry thats not a good argument

how does that prove anything? 40% of assistant coaches are black and arent they usually next in line to be head coaches?

I will say that there is probably a little race involved at some schools for college sports, but what this article pertains to about professional sports that dude needs to give it a rest. Statements like his set back progression against racism anyways...

more and more are getting hired every year and the numbers will continue to increase... its called progress

there arent that many HC position available each year anyways so the job openings are limited.

who did Louisville hire this year? A Black guy

Plus on a bigger scale only 13% of the US population is Black, so if 12/117 of HC positions are held by black men then I'd say its close in retrospect in comparison.

I will however say im sure racism still exist in an extremely small handful of schools, which could account for 5 jobs MAX, but overall it is not affecting the hiring of black head coaches.

what pisses me off is that guys like Ben Sheets have been through the same thing jermaine dye is going through right now.
it has nothing to do with race yet a racist ass like orlando hudson MAKES it about race. orlando is a complete idiot and so is anyone that defends his statements.

also: the rooney rule is BS. why the hell should you have to interview someone you have no intention of hiring? pretty soon every damn race will have to be considered. it's f'ing ridiculous.

Cutting to the core of it the bottom line is there are times and places in society where allegations of racism make sense.

When rich baseball players complain that they yes they did make millions already and are past their prime, but the owners and GMs must be racist because they didn't hire ABC player, that is a pretty thin argument

I would add that Kenny Williams, the black GM of the White Sox who has been there since before the WS run, let Dye go.

but you don't see any comment about that, do you? it's precisely this bs type allegation that some already rich and entitled black people make that turns off the rest of the population and makes those arguments seem a lot less valid than they are
