Recommended: The Last Boy Mickey Mantle

Of course , The Mick was my man, my hero , and in my opinion without so many devastating injuries, he would have been the best.

Power and Speed

anyway, this latest book by Jane Leavy gets involved with many happenings that is tough to read, although we all knew it to be true.. His alcohol, his women..etc

well written.. I am over halfway through...very detailed. From his monumentus shots over the fence , to hard hit grounders that about took infielders to the outfield... to the bad treatment and numerous terrible injuries, the battle with Maris to overtake the Babe

great read

Thanks 2 bagger.

I just got in the mail from Amazon and have not started it yet. Finishing up with "Charlie Finley, the outrageous story of baseball's super showman"

Mickey is also my all-time favorite player. Used to love to watch him play. Back in the old days we only got one game a week and that was the Yankees.

the book also points out some of the bright spots and characteristics as well.

I remember tearing up more than once the day he died ,the funeral, etc. etc.

Did you ever see him play in person, 2B?

I saw him play in person about 10 times at the old Met in Minneapolis.

Thanks, 2b. Will check it out.

Just about finished with every book I'm currently reading.

Finished Playing with Fire, the Theo Fleury autobiography, about a month ago. Best sports bio I've ever read maybe. If you like hockey even a little, or even if you don't, you'll get sucked in quick. Starts out with a prologue you won't forget: Theo sitting in his Arizona mansion, with 10 bottles of lemon Stoli and a pile of coke on his coffee table, and him on the couch with the barrel of a gun in his mouth.

yes , I did .. not nearly enough though.

In Chicago.

My Dad coached a player that played with the White Sox and when I was 10 years old I got to go with that player into their clubhouse and meet all of them prior to their game. I had my Yankee hat on , and of course they were playing the Yanks. They were really nice , gave me autographs, but also gave me a little crap about my hat
I remember taking a picture of The Mick as the Yankees warmed up .
I think he hit a HR but I want to try and find the box scores for the game(s) we went to.
Not sure how to find old box scores.. but I will
