yeah i have done it, it isnt hard, but you got the time consuming thing right. u actually kind of (well at least i do, i do remodeling for a living) get into a zone and by the time you think about it ur like half done. I dont know if you have seen it on a TV infomercial, but that fein multimaster actually is worth using for something like this. Most stuff on TV is garbage but i actually own this and a rotozip from the TV ad's. Its an expensive tool ($400) but i know Home Depot rents tools and they might rent this. Check another rental place in your area. other than that u gotta be pretty steady with ur hand if your using a grinder.

on a side note i wouldnt assume this would be too expensive to hire someone, ive never been hired to do this specifically, but i have had to do it in small sections for bathroom remodels.

...if they are the thin and small 4" sq wall tile in your bathroon just to remove mold or soap/shampoo scum I would do it manually with that $5 tool HD sells. Be steady and no need to use force. No need to regrout unless it's cracked or there's spots missing.

Floor tiles is a lil' different. If u don't have any skills using a roto-zip or angle grinder as jrobie said u risk skidding too much and that will damage the finish of your tile at the slightest slippage.

Alot of times u don't have to re-grout. Just skimming the surface with that small hand tool will give it a fresh new look.

If u have to regrout then u have to go as deep as u can to remove the old grout...and it doesn't really hold that long anyway so think about re-tiling from scratch.

Note that the angle grinder will emit fine dust that will go airborne...and it gives a smell that is not that pleasant either that stays in the house for a few days. And don't say I will open the window cuz all that does is the wind will bring it further in the house--lol. Hey, what can I say--lol. GL.

Kramer--

It seems like u have a fairly new house and nothing wrong with the subfloor or tile work. It's just u that's picky and think it should match. Not necessarily. The builder chose grey cuz white grout will get a yellowish or greyish colour with use anyway. Sometimes it gets a pinkish colour from the copper pipe discolouration and that water sits on top.

I wouldn't re-grout unless there's a problem. Live with it cuz u will regret it one way or another as u will lose out on a nicely finished grouted floor.

If it's stronger than u then re-tile. Either remove all what's there and start from scratch...or retile on top. If on top they sell a special pre-mixed glue that has a strong bonding agent that works on vinyl, hardwood or even ceramic. Don't use the cement glue here that u have to mix yourself.
