Ahh yes when a unit was a unit $1000.00
Internet changed that, now you dont know what someone is betting unless the post what their unit amount is.

I remember weekends well, starting thurs or fri depending on the sport we would meet at either Skyjackers(thurs.) or Kopper King(fri.) usually about 20 or so degenerates ranging in age from 20-60.
The local would be busier than a one armed paper hanger taking our plays, usually 1/2 unit plays, sometimes 1 unit plays if we could get 2 peeps on the same pik.
I think he hated the months of Nov. & DEC.(NFL,NCAAF,NHL &NBA) ie: was that a play on the `cowboy`s, `Stars` or `Mavs`.
Being on the west coast we would have to have our plays in by 10 am sunday mornin sometimes earlier if the local was sluffin them off to his guy in Vancouver.
Write em down and phone em in, argue with the local about a 1/2 point line change(to no avail) except what you got and sweat the game all mornin.

LOL, Dont miss it at all. (other than the commaderie{sp} of course)

Remember before ATMs? When I was in college, if you didn't have any cash on Friday night, you just didn't have any cash until Monday.

Remember before seatbelts and bike helmets? Survival of the fittest was a good thing.

Dammit, now I'll get my free play on April 23rd, 2012 instead of April 22nd, 2012, when I really could have used it!

Yes, I remember as I did all my stat-keeping updates on pen and paper and calculator and still have those tucked away in a box. Believe it or not it was quicker then; now there's just too much to look at.

when I was in college in upstate NY in the early 1980's (SUNY Oswego), we had a local guy (name was Winky), who operated out of an empty storefront (obviously he was paying off the local cops). You'd go down there and you had to put down the $$ in cash up front. He always paid however. I'll never forget, he'd say "the more you put down, the more you pick up !"

The good 'ol days.

Evan: What? One name? ONE NAME!?!? Who are you? Seal?
Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

Use to frequent the Oswego speedway back in those days, you?
What were they called, Super modifieds I think. Loud as hell inside that enclosed track.
