Retirement

Like many my age itís time to look forward and time to look past
The past in jobs or money earning happenings for me
Sold nitecrawlers
Mowed yards
Shoveled walks
Paper route
Worked at golf course
Walked beans
Apprentice for electricians
Unloaded box cars
Loaded up dumb ass turkeys , worst job ever
Bartender at golf course ( some nice after hours fringe benefits there )
Graduated from college and then
41 years in the animal feed industry and a few years selling sports cards

So after 41 years in the feed industry , I have given them my walking papers and am retiring the end of March

A great feeling . Social security coming early makes sense as my break even point by not waiting is like at 75 , so taking it now instead of waiting until 66 .
Wife is 9 years younger , makes real good money in medical field thus I will latch on to her insurance and the big plus
I donít have to drive 95 miles one way to work after March

Any retirement advice is most welcome

I'd find a part time gig. Something you might enjoy to keep you busy. My dad retired at 55 and could of used something to keep him busy. Now that I think of it, 55 is pretty early to retire. Anyway, retiring sounds great, but after awhile, you will get bored. Keeping busy keeps you young in spirit and mind.
Congrats

Congrats 2B. I have been retired for 11 years and I don't like it. I never get a day off or a vacation !!!! When I get up at 5:00 I have nothing to do and when I go to bed at midnight I'm only half done. Just enjoy yourself and stay busy.

Congrats 2b

Enjoy it is my suggestion, find something to stay busy and involved socially with people. Golf would be my recomendation, or find a fishing partner.

Congratulations secondbase. It couldn`t happen to a nicer guy. Enjoy and try to stay busy doing something you enjoy. As for myself I drink wine and chase my wife around the house. That`s just me though, but if it sounds good go for it.

Congrats! I would say if you have a lot of funds saved, TRAVEL whenever and wherever you can while you are HEALTHY, because eventually, our bodies break down and even walking can become difficult. Take that trip to Europe ASAP - it's beautiful. Cruises are nice, but go with friends, it's much more fun, try to GO ON at least ONE. If you like it, go once a year when it's cold here and warm in the Caribbean.

Take care of yourself, but don't join a gym (you probably won't go often - it gets boring), and walk often. If you don't like to walk alone, get a DOG - you'll HAVE to walk him every day! (LOL) -- Join a golf league or bowling team, even as a sub - just stay busy.

Visit family and distant friends if you can - time with them is never wasted time. Keep a positive attitude and you'll have friends forever. They will always remember you with a smile and say "I sure miss him" when you're gone. It'll also make your kids proud of you and you'll always have plenty of good friends and a pleasant, fulfilling life.

Congrats secondbase. My last day of work was November 12, which was the day I turned 62. I did many of the same jobs as you when younger(shoveling snow, mowing grass, working at golf course, paper route). My wife is 6 years younger so still working. I’m loving it so far but will be even better when weather gets good and I can play golf everyday!!

ENJOY!!

Thanks y’all
Stay in shape advice is obvious and good . I was rocking it before I moved down here .
At age 58 I was putting up 285 four times after working up to that weight 4 reps at a time from 135. Never did try to do the ole max out that we always thought was so cool
Was down to 180 lbs .
When we moved and I drove 95 to work , it was breakfast sandwich on the way , out for lunch , drive home and wife and I go out .
Now at 217 lbs , it’s time to walk every day at least an hour , eat better which is obvious
As far as vacations go , we own three weeks of really nice timeshares . Yes , really nice and we use them well, so vacations will happen
Plus a will hit up at least four Pga events this year
