Is This Right?

Every Friday in the shopping center that my restaurant resides a deputy sheriff
sits all day. While there he runs tags of people pumping gas at the Citgo. Upon discovering an issue (no ins. expired license) he pulls them over. We appreciate them being there but i thought there should be probable cause for pulling someone over. Just seems as a fundraising gig to me

No not right, so while real crimes happen elsewhere hes just lounging and writing tickets all day, wow, lazy.

Should try something like this, except put 'If you have an expired license or no insurance keep driving'

It's being proactive. And a cash cow at the same time.

I was a witness to an accident a few years back and the guy that caused the accident, after telling the person he rear-ended to move over to the side of the road, tore off in his beat-up pickup because he did not have any insurance. I'd rather people are ticketed before hand than trying to hunt them down after, if and when they wreak havoc on the roads.

As far as being a "fundraising gig", you won't have to donate if your insurance and license are up-to-date and in order.

It's just like the photo radar and red light cameras. Some people complain that they're just a tax grab, but the only people paying this "tax" are the one's who are breaking the law.

I'm sure I'll have some opposing opinions, but that's the way I look at it.

Falcon--regardless of the reason, if you own a restaurant in the shopping center, I'd think you would be pretty happy to have a cop sitting in the parking lot all day.

Evan: What? One name? ONE NAME!?!? Who are you? Seal?
Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

I had this happen 10 years ago at a Speedway gas station.
Had a suspended license, ran my plates from a parking lot across the street.
Let my friend drive the car home because Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Hiawatha) wrote the wrong date on my ticket! Got that resolved REAL quick!

They have probable cause by running the plates, if the tags are expired, car is stolen, license suspended or revoked, thats their cause for a stop.

They have plate scanners in police cars now, can run everyone at a stoplight in less than a minute.

The only way the cops know if you do not have insurance is AFTER the stop.
If you do not have insurance and you do not get that SR-22, then your license is suspended.

It is good to have the cops do this as anyone without a license, has it suspended or revoked, HAS NO INSURANCE!
