If you have aluminum rims. The problem is that grit/dirt can get trapped between the tire bead and the bead seat area of the inside of the wheel. This grit continually scrapes away at the surface of the wheel while allowing water/other in to corrode the metal. the metal gets pitted allowing air to escape. This can be fixed with a bead seal, but it'll eventually return.
