Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Latest Inductees

The 2018 list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees was released on Wednesday (Dec. 13) and the lineup reads like an all-star roster of rock radio favorites. First time inductees Dire Straits and The Moody Blues made the cut, along with New Jersey rock icons Bon Jovi and new wave standard-bearers The Cars, as well as soul-stirring singer/activist Nina Simone and early influence gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Is it me, or are the inductees becoming less and less worthy each year ? I am not talking about the rap artists that are inducted (that's another story), but it seems like the standards have really dropped here. If The Cars are in, how is Foreigner (or even Styx) not in ?? And don't get me started with Bon Jovi. Puh-leeze.

I tend to agree. No problem with dire straits though.

I happen to like Dire Straits a lot, but I don't think they were groundbreaking in terms of their music; or in terms of record sales; or even in longevity. The Moody Blues are probably more worthy in that regard. The Cars were OK, but hardly HOF material. Bon Jovi is a joke. Next thing you know Def Leppard will be in. LOL.

I personally think that the J. Geils Band would have been a better selection. And how is it that Foreigner does not even get nominated ?? "What are you people, on dope ?"

He is...but after a couple of albums, he decided to do too many movie scores and not enough mainstream recordings. Again, don't get me wrong, I love Dire Straits. Just think it is a bit of a stretch to include them in the HOF. Of course, they definitely belong over The Cars (LMAO) and Bon Blowme.

#rockhall always inspires lots of debate
at the end of the day its a private business that can induct who it sees fit, they don't answer to anyone (although they could give more weight to the fan vote)
I know Little Steven Van Zandt is on the induction committee and I trust his judgement as I like his taste in music
as for the other members, I'm not that familiar with them
Personally, I'm happy for the Cars as they are one of my favourite bands, lots of good songs

I could go on and on about this, Keith knows, always looking for crazy music trivia etc
I'm not a big Jovi fan either but can't ignore the stats:
four #1s, and 10 top ten hits including an impressive 8 top ten singles...consecutively over three years in the 80s
if voting was strictly commercial, corporate Phil Collins would get in as a solo artist
all though Disney hits etc...7 number 1s!, including four consecutive singles he released went to #1!
14 top tens total, $33 million US in record sales

Canadians in the RRHOF
Neil Young (2X), Rush, Leonard Cohen
plus Dewey Martin, Denny Doherty and Zal Yanofsky (Buffalo Springfield, Mamas & the Papas, Lovin' Spoonful)
and The Band members Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson and Robbie Robertson (he's on the induction committee too)

some may argue he became corporate later on (like Jovi & Collins) but next Canadian inducted could be Bryan Adams
12 T10 singles including 4 #1s, 17 million in sales in US alone

Guess Who/BTO going in would be okay by me too

for the record, chart info I reference is The Billboard Hot 100
not any other rock chart or from any other country, to keep things streamlined
I figure rolling stone magazine pays attention mostly to that chart
and Jann Wenner is founder of both Rolling Stone magazine and of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
(also an inductee lol)
