Runners high

I've never ever enjoyed running as I much prefer competitive sports to keep me in shape and motivated.

That said, I just finished my first half marathon this morning and feel as high as a kite! Holy endorphin rush batman! My legs feel like they might fall off, but otherwise surprised at how good that ish feels.

Any good running experiences from the rest of the mall?

congrats brother! people that run for just exercise and not the love of running will never feel that but it is incredible when you're running and conditioning isn't even a factor, you feel like you could run 100 miles lol

i was a runner for a hell of a long time, did the pittsburgh marathon in high school, parkersburg half not long after and countless 10Ks and 5Ks

i can remember basically the run that got me into longer runs and into running 50-60 miles/week was just a 5 miler.....was the last practice of cross country season when i was around 14...the workout was just to run 5 miles on the track, i thought that was a marathon lol but i breezed through it, ran negative splits the whole way and never looked back......had been running since i was 8 but that was the run that changed everything

i quit for a few yrs after nagging injuries and just being burned out but i did get back in to it this week with 4 days...way to ease back in lol it's been just run/walk so far at my weight but it feels great to be starting back up

The only thing I run for is the toilet. Used to love to run but now my ankles swell when I run. I will stick to walking.

Run all the time here Dom...good stuff IMO...

Longest i do is a 10 mile run they have in Annapolis which is all hills. Never wanted to do a half marathon yet. Usually just do 4-5 mile every other day to stay in shape..

I have a 4 day 340 mile bike ride coming up in May as well

F me the runners high eventually gives way to nothing but pain. Lol I've pooped 4 times In 3 hours and see no signs of it subsiding. Methinks I pushed my body too hard, but f it I never thought I'd run that far that fast so definitely worth it.

Quad that's great man keep it up!

BP that's a ridiculously long bike ride yikes. After your next run you should GFY just because!

marathon runners burn not only fat but muscle

but can see it as part of a routine, occasional long distance

it is good for your heart, there are ways to condition your heart without being long distance though

say 20-25 miles a week of more like sprints...but BP is an expert on fitness

lol rome, i know you like to put the intellectual spin on everything but sometimes there's more to it

most marathon runners don't do it with the health benefits in mind, that's simply a byproduct of their love of their sport

sure there are ways to condition your heart without going long distance.......that's like saying there are ways to spend your money without gambling.....of course there are, but you choose to do what you enjoy

sprints are a bitch bro....sprints IMO are mainly used for people that are trying to improve on their times in whatever distance run you are doing.

cardio is the way to go to lose weight and maintain it....treadmills flat out suck...nothing beats just going out and running for cardio IMO
