Selling a car on craigslist

So the last few months Ive been going thru some car troubles, been driving a junker for the last month or so, a 1989 oldsmobile cutlass ciera.

So anyways Im fortunate enough I was able to get a 2011 civic and Im selling my junker on craigslist. I paid $1300 for it like a month ago and I put it on craigslist for $1000. I dont care Im losin a few hundred, Im thrilled with my new car and just wanna dump it.

However, I have decided I will not accept a penny less than $1000 regardless of how long it takes

So anyways, I got literally like 25 calls yesterday and every single person wanted to try and chop me down on price. Two guys finally agreed to $1000, gave them my address, they said they were on their way and just never showed.

So heres where a little hilarity or idiocy ensues.

One guy calls me and says "Im prepared to make you a cash offer of $600"

Me : "I will not accept less than $1000 sorry"

Him : "but its cash"

Me : "dude thats all I accept is cash so cash is no bonus sorry"

Him : "well can I at least come by and look at it"

Me : "not if youre gonna offer me less than $1000"

So he says ok and I give him my address and he says he'll call IF he's gonna come by. So Im a little irritated that I gave him my address when he might not even come by but whatever, thats the risk you take. So anyways he never calls or comes by yesterday

So I come home just now and theres a van with three guys in it sitting in my driveway and Im like wtf. SO I pull up and they get out and say theyre this guy and his brothers or whatever. Oh ok right on whats up

Him "I came by cuz i have the $600 and would like the car"

Me : "Youre kidding me right? I told you ten different times I wont go less than $1000"

Him "But its cash"

Me : "again, thats all I accept. $1000 or nothing"

Then his brother mutters "well we dont have $1000" and I just walk inside and shut the door

Is this a common experience on craigslist to just have everyone try and screw you over and just total idiots that dont understand a price is a price???? Or is this ridiculous????? Or both??!!!!!

if you get a $1000 for a 1989 oldsmobile cutlass ciera, the person buying it has a few screws loose. I think you should have taken the $600 . If you hold onto it and dont drive it its just going to turn into a junker, ready for the wrecking yard. You would be luckey to get $150 cash in scrap for it. If you get a grand, good, but in all honesty a 1989 ciera is not worth that. $500 tops in my books. GL in your venture

I just checked the black book value on this car, even in mint condition, its a $900 car. I highly doubt its mint, low figure was $600.

Donate it to your local high school, they can probably use it.

If a vehicle runs, you can prob get $1000...but is it worth giving your name and address to half the town for a couple hundred bucks? Take the 800-900 and save yourself some time and maybe an old fashioned ass whoopin.

if you put up 1000, gotta be willing to come down to 800 or 900 ... if your bottom line number was 1000 shoulda asked 1200 maybe?? tough though, anyone is going to want a deal, regardless of the price

My experience is to price whatever I'm selling 40% higher than what I want to get out of it. List it at $1400 and you will sell it in a week for $1000

would never give my name and address on Craigslist.......just my thought. Better means of selling than through CL.
