Series EE Bonds Stolen

Hey guys -

I used to post in sports, but pulled back for obvious reasons on the sports stuff and focused on <gasp> work.

Been thinking about turning to the market, and it's great to see that Stock Talk is now included in the Mall.

To the matter at hand: I had my truck broken into between my house and the bank where I was headed to get a safe deposit box. I know... Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 to 2000 worth of Series EE bonds were among the items I was relieved of in the event.

Do you gentlemen know if there is there anything I can do through the treasury since my name was on said bonds?

Ha. The bank told me to call the Feds. They were from my Grandmother (RIP) so I don't know where she got them.

What should I do if my paper savings bond has been lost, stolen, or destroyed?
Simply fill out the form for Lost, Stolen, or Destroyed U.S. Savings Bonds (Form PD F 1048) and mail it to the address provided on the form.
If you don't have a listing of your savings bonds' issue dates and serial numbers, write to Savings Bonds, Parkersburg, WV 26106-7012. Provide as much information on the bond as possible and request a search of our records. We will replace your savings bonds if we can establish that a person entitled to cash the bonds hasn't done so.
We can convert paper certificates to electronic format in a TreasuryDirect account if you have received an invitation from us. You may want to consider this option if you're concerned about bonds being lost or destroyed. For more information on converting paper bonds, visit the SmartExchangeSM program.

go to USBONDS.G ov

You will find a section link to lost or stolen bonds, if they were in your grandmothers name and she is gone, you can only cash them with a death Cert. if they didnt get that in your truck, then about 90% of recovery but act fast and FILE a police report
