Serious Question - Job Related

I have an interesting question.

Lets say hypothetically that you are fairly happy with your job, it pays Ok for your profession (given your location), but there are long hours (yet you dont mind them as much).

Now, a recruiter comes from nowhere and offers to pay you 2.5-3 times what you currently make. No need for relocation.

the kicker is that it is a 80% travelling position. Basically every monday morning your flown out to HQ, and every thursday you fly back home, work from home on friday and spend the weekend at home
They pay for all expenses, hotel, flights, rental, etc. You get to keep the miles.

It is a Professional Services gig so there might be times when it becomes 100% travel, meaning you dot get to go back home.

Do you take it? It would take a decade before you make the same kind of money at your current job, if ever.

what would you do?

EDIT: lets say you dont have any kids. You are still in your late 20s, early 30s.
No real responsibilities other than a mortgage/rent

the money is really really good though. think about what you could do if your salary tripled.

age/family have a lot to do with it....when i was younger i'd have welcomed it, but when I was working for Del Monte they wanted me to start traveling but my g/f and I had just moved in together and didn't really want to be away from her and the kids every week like that so I ended up switching jobs......but if i were to be making 2.5-3 times that, i'd have stuck it out longer, but not have been happy about it

Zoom, this a no-brainer to me. Take the job, make the larger dough/bank it,invest properly, and even say you stuck it out for 7yrs....u will look back on it forever as the smartest move ever. The ones who say money doesn't bring happiness don't have any cash. lol.....alot of options open to you then, and you can have as much quality time as you like after putting in the time 7-10 yrs, and reaping almost 3 times the dough. compound interest is a glorioius thing.

TSP i agree with the concept. even 7 is a long time to stick it out. say you do 4 years. Triple the dough. invest it properly and you would be set for a while.

Also, the new position would be a nice padding to the resume as it is a reputable company.

and, you do have to be away from the family a lot, but think about the quality of the time you will have with the family. You would be able to do anything you want on those weekends since you will have more dough. Also, accumulate all the miles; you could go anywhere you want for free afterwards.

I still want to hear the opinions of those that say money is not everything. Though i tend to agree with TSP on that one; it might not buy happiness but it def helps LOL

I get that offer where I work all the time now via a protection detail but you are always gone for long periods.

I can't live off someone else's sched which its obv. you are

Thats just me though..

Maybe if I was single and younger I'd consider it but not now

I don't think you're going to get too much of that from a bunch of degens like us here. Take the money and run Zoomer, boost the resume and retire earlier than you would have hoped.

Any chance this company would let you not travel down the road too? That might be what puts it over the top

very slim from what i hear. unless you move into management or c-level position; which is tough for an industry expert as clients would still want that person to go on-site; it doesnt matter how much it costs.

Only other option is to request a transfer to a large city/region where they have a lot of clients; this would mean that you would serve your local market more often and thus reduce your travel.

this is a large global consulting company so they have offices everywhere but only a few of them truly serve local markets.

i still think padding the resume and banking the dough is the right call.

easy choice imo...go to the interview at least...what will it hurt

like kris said..if nothing else its a resume booster....do it for a year or 2 and see what you think...i travel alot and you will enjoy it for a while...then it gets old but if you get the job and its 3x your salary then you gotta do it at your age imo

Money isn't everything, cause if you're not happy, you'll probably waste most of the money. Im going to be cheesy but the answer to your query is in this song by a canadian heavy metal band of the 80s...
