Share a sports betting story of yours with the forum......

I'll go first, true stories only sorry PV :

Was in a TAB (local betting shop) not long after one of the All Blacks early exits in a rugby world cup at the hands of France.
Bumped into someone I knew, he asked me what i had in the game, told him France to win and the amount.
One slight problem, one of the locals a nutter (a guy I had seen before but never met)
overheard me. He took serious objection to the fact I bet against the All Blacks, proceeded to give me a long lecture, calling me unpatriotic and I shouldn't be able to live in NZ lol like I give a chit what he thought.
I'd say if one of his friends hadn't calmed him down he may have tried the punch me. He was that angry lol.

Waaay back in 2000, big boxing match coming up in NZ - David Tua vs Lennox Lewis for the heavyweight title. I've always liked Lewis and figured Tua wouldn't stand a chance against him as I could only remember him fighting guys like Cecil Coffee and journeymen like that. Lewis was a big step up in class for him. Throw in Lewis towering over him and I figured this was a one sided fight all the way..

Made my way down to the local betting agency, but as this fight was a massive deal down here in NZ there was a little queue around the betting slips. Got talking to a dude in line about the fight.. he was absolutely convinced Tua was going to work inside and land the haymaker to Lewis' 'weak chin' ala McCall in '94. The more he talked, the more I was convinced Tua would knock out Lewis.. the odds were really attractive (much better than backing the favourite Lewis) so I did a 180 and took Tua by knockout!
Head down to pub on fight night.. pub is packed.. place is going crazy.. EVERYONE cheering on Tua.

After one round.. I know I've lost..

Still the most one sided fight I've ever seen

Cool story, we all made bad mistakes when we started betting.

Here's one of mine :

Had just started in the game, was probably 17-18.....talked a relative into taking a bet on a short priced favourite, I still remember the price 1.33.
Was convinced they would win. We took a trip to the TAB, older guy there saw what I was doing and tried to talk me out of it. $1500 @ 1.33.....but went through with it. Needless to say bet went up in smoke. Relative still often reminds me of it.

This was actually a key moment in my sports betting life, had this not happened may have not learnt some key lessons early on.

Great saying :

"If you lose, don't lose the lesson"

Had $2,200 on the Bucs second half. It was all profit from putting in $300 on Saturday.
I had the win except for a saints touchdown. 2:50 left in overtime! The Punter!
Tom ****ing Tupa got strangled in the end zone and was just about to go down for a safety, but.......................................
He throws the ball left handed and right into a Saints defender!
Touchdown Saints game over!

It still is the worst bet i have ever lost.
I drank like eleventeen beers and drank shots all night afterwards
Had to manage at Old Navy the next morning, forgot the alarm code.
Store manager had to come and sent me home for the day.
The store manager treated me like shit for the next 2 months, even though it was only the 2nd time in 61 months I missed work.
The silver lining to it was I found a new job in November that paid for the rest of my college and was so sick of folding clothes and working there.

Learned a monster lesson that day. Don't give back your profits by betting so much on one game, let alone one half.

And to write an alarm code for work on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet.
