So Which Has better " Value" right Now?

A $ 50,000 GM , FORD , OR CHRYSLER
AT 50% OFF If offered
(I.E. $ 25,000 OUT THE DOOR)

Or a $40,000 TOYOTA OR HONDA
FULL PRICE

Thoughts?

are you talking as an "investment"? or for daily use?
i switch cars every 3 years, so for me, even though i think american cars are garbage, i woul consider a top of the line american car at half price for 3 years. but even then, you would get killed on the trade-in so the answer is simple. the jap car has more value.

I never buy Jap cars. I only buy American, so I have to go with the Ford at half price. I drive a car until it dies on me so getting a car at half price would be a bargain for me. BTW how are you getting a car at half price. I want one.

Go to your local dealership... 1/2 price is prob exageration, but if you can make em a cash offer... you'd be surprised.

It's like the picky eating dog... if it gets hungry enough, that dry dogfood will taste great.

Sadly the Ford will die on you in a few yrs while the "Jap" (which some are made in the US) will last longer. On the plus side you will always find parts for your Ford in the wrecking yard.

That's a little old now... (10 years ago, you are correct) they are pretty much even these days... Toyota - producing so many has experienced more disgruntled owners lately.

Really? Who is it looking for a handout today? Didn't see Toyota and Honda begging for money. Build a decent desirable product and you don't need bailing out. Check sales numbers, repair numbers which lends to dependability. Maybe 10 years from now it will be pretty much even but I doubt it. In 10 years, they will only have been back begging for more money.

I meant the quality part - not the need for money - I totally agree on that part, but I dont' think they are hurting like the big three due to the UAW f'ing the big 3... $75/hr to put the maual in the glove box... . UAW needs to be blown up.

yeah, this is still true. quality of craftmanship is way superior on the forieng carmakers. note that those cars are made here too, just without unionized labor.

and yes you can go to an american dealer and get a top of the line car, loaded for half price or less. actually local dealers have been bugging me to take their top of the line trucks and suvs for about 15k, thats without negotiating, i could probably bring them down to to less.

Sadly you are mistaken. My 00' Mustang GT still runs today and it has over 130,000 miles on it. It has never been to the shop, have only done regular maintenance on it and it works like a champ. I only drive it on weekends now but it is still my favorite car to drive. American cars are great. I have only owned them and will continue to own them. And BTW, in college my wife's civic died after 80,000 miles. Looks like the Ford outlasted it. Keep driving your Jap crap. I will keep my American car.

hmmm nick... i wouldnt have pegged for such a hardcore domestic supporter. lol

yes, everyone has a story how their car lasted forever, etc. my only contention against american cars is their craftmanship. the quality of the finish from paint, to interior, to details in the drivetrain. I also contend with the focus on straight line HP performance, yet their handling is absolutely terrible, but that could be just personal preference.
