Soccer... I tried

I have watched a lot of these games. Been bored to death, but watch most of them waiting for something good to happen. What I have come up with is that soccer players are worse actors than NBA players.

I honestly gave this world cup a chance. But I cant take it anymore.

Here are the problems I have with it...

1- Ties. I know its only in the opening rounds. But no sport should have a tie. If both the US and England tie their next game and score the same amount of goals, they have a "blind draw" to see who goes to the next round? WTF? Thats stupid.

2- The refs have way too much power. In no other sport can a ref call a foul and not tell anyone who its on or what that player did. Then make up what ever "extra time" they want at the end of a game.

3- Faking injury.... Come on.... What a bunch of pussy's. If they put half as much effort into trying to win as they do faking injury they might win more games.

4- The fukin horns. To me its lack of knowledge on the fans part. You dont need to blow the horn or cheer when your team is kicking the ball back to your own goal keeper. Save all your effort for the times that your team actually shoots the ball.

Dont know how you could possibly watch this crap all year long.

good post. I agree, I hate the faking and flopping bs. But I do love the World Cup, any other time I don't even bother watching soccer though.

LOL

to each its own, but all the points you made are fairly invalid.

it is as if i rated the NBA based on a game refereed by crawford with varejao and other floppers, that is played in a court with shitty fans.

ties is part of the game, i understand if you dont like them, but in a league they completely change the strategy of a game based on the result needed (not that i necessarily agree with playing for 1 point, but i recognize it can be iimportant)

The refs have just as much power as refs in any other sport. Just because NBA/NFL they have to call who the fouls is on it does not change that they have too much power. they still make up fouls, give make up calls, see shit that didnt happen, and ruin games when they are whistle happy. no difference

i have talked about fakers before. There is a reason why it happens so much. All i got to say is that it actually has value. Wish it didnt happen as often though. only somewhat valid point, though NBA is just as bad.

the horns is unique to south africa and i agree, its annoying.
Watch a real game in europe or south america. hear the chants from the crowds, and the visuals of how they act and makes every other sport fans look like heartless pussies with no knowledge of the game.

give it another shot some other time, or wait till the knockout stages.

the flopping is pathetic and some of these guys get carted off for shit that they probably shouldn't but I am honestly hooked on the World Cup......the heart the U.S. showed in the Slovania game got me on board for the rest of the tourney

So you agree that if the US and England both tie or win their next game and have the same amount of goals that a blind draw is the fair way to decide who goes on? Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

Lets just flip a coin now and decide who will be in he baseball playoffs.

And as for the refs..... I think if they had to declare who they called a foul on and what it was for they would call alot less penaltys. They can just blow it for no reason.

Solid posts and perspectives offered by both Ronnie and Zoomer.

Ron points out most key elements of the game that Americans don't understand due to their lack of exposure to the sport in general. I am sure that many share his views and are frustrated by all of the above.

Zoom makes a valiant effort to defend all of the above but at the end of the day, it is simply not possible to convey the excitement of the game to anyone who only watches it during the World Cup.

I am enjoying the games immensely, in no small part due to the manner in which they have galvanized the Costa Rican population as well as most of the rest of the world. I grew up in Brazil and never swung a baseball bat until I was 14 years old so my perspective is a bit different.

Now this guy has a reason to complain.

I actually had the same thing happen to me playing soccer.

OUCH!

I cant turn it off.... but I get so mad watching it. The rules are so out dated. Yeah... thats what makes it great but this day and age with so much hate in the world. Most of these refs have an agenda. And you better believe that ref was gonna do what ever he had to so the US would not win.

It's exciting when a team like the U.S.A comes back from 2 goals down.......unfortunately you will only see something like that a few times during an entire tournament

Dont get me wrong.... I'm seriously trying to like this. If they would just let them play and have a winner/loser every game it would make it much more enjoyable.

Ronnie, it is high time that you give credit to the gent who originally stated the wisdom in your sig.

You might even want to consider adding the following tidbit from one of my personal heroes, Al Bundy:

"Pretty women make us BUY beer. Ugly women make us DRINK beer."

Love Al Bundy.

Frank Sinatra was the man too!
