Some changes with Main Street and information for all of our members

First this is not towards any one individual. This post is a long time coming.

Also please refrain from any sarcasm or insults in this thread. I am very serious about that.

Cappers Mall is a place for people to gather and talk sports. For some it's a full-time home and for some it's a place to get away from the every day life grind. Of course all the sports information helps as well. There are so many people of different personalities, ages, moral values, political beliefs and sports team's fans. It would be crazy to assume we all think a like.

This site is for capping/sports information and camaraderie - the moderator part does involve some babysitting, but when that babysitting completely takes away from the info/camaraderie part then it's time to show the kids the boot.

The goal is to not have to do that. Members must understand that not everyone has the same sense of humor. Not everyone uses profane language or is comfortable with downright rude behavior. What is funny to some is not so funny to others.

While the Main Street forum is a little different and rules have been relaxed there MUST be a line drawn. Not every thread has to have people jumping in with sarcasm. Some people would like to create a thread in Main Street with the hopes of getting a good discussion going on a certain topic rather than turn it in to 4 pages of FU, Your gay, I am not gay. You suck. Etc..... While some topics might be appropriate for this kind of actions and some banter between members can be okay - there are others that may be turned off by it and that's when I have to step in. Not every decision, rule, or whatever would be agreed upon by all members and I don't act upon every complaint or emailed disappointment - however there is a point when it has been said many times and something needs to be done.

I really do not want to make this post so long that people get bored and stop reading it about now but I am trying to get a point across without offending any group of people. I am not necessarily judging what is wrong or right, but I will judge on what is appropriate for the majority of the forum.

There will be a slight change with the Main Street setup in the very near future.

1. There will be a new forum section for Sportsbook/Casino/Poker/Misc. Gambling Topics.

This will be a serious forum only with no BS. There will be much more freedom when it comes to sportsbooks, casino, poker, etc talk. This will be a forum that should contain ANY topics related to gambling (sports, casino, or other). The title and exact guidelines of this section (if any) will be announced shortly.

2. Main Street will continue to be available for all off topic, multi sport or any conversation - the way it is now EXCEPT, it will not include any overboard profanity, bashing, or a lot of the stuff that has been discussed above. This will be a section for mature adults who want to discuss and debate all of these non casino, specific sports topics. Humor is okay but the line will clearly be drawn.

3. Cappers Mall Basement

This will be an added version of "Main Street" (located in different area) where more taboo topics will be allowed there (including gentle ribbing between members), but senseless bashing, touting, etc. would still be forbidden. Many of the topics that have been in Main Street will be more appropriate for the CM basement. This is also where threads will be moved to that get out of hand in any forum with senseless crap like some of them do. Members will be able to create threads in this forum just like any other forum. This forum section will not be like some other places where it's a bad place to be or a punishment. It is for the people who want or enjoy a lot of the stuff in Main Street that others might call it "non-sense". The only thing that will happen is if a member purposely tries to ignite regular threads in the regular forums, only so they get sent to the basement - then the most likely scenario, will be that member having their account restricted and will only be able to participate and/or view the basement. Also bringing stuff up from the basement to other forums will be strictly prohibited. This will be a step before "the boot" which I prefer to avoid at all costs if possible.

I believe this is a compromise and a way to grow the forum and also do what is appropriate.

One last thing concerning the late heat in the football forum. Please understand this has nothing to do with "the fix" talk or the heat in the football forum. Football people are very passionate. Gamblers are very passionate. Team fans are very passionate. When you put it all together you get "heat" sometimes. Those kinds of debates are fine as long it does not become personal. Although the controversy in the SB has caused some heated topics, every year, this time of the year, emotions fly high. Most of this above talk - concerns Main Street only. FYI

Finally I will be announcing in the very near future some info and plan I have in regards to moderators. Please do not reply to this post about this but I will be posting some "qualifications" and "requirements" as it relates to moderators in the very near future.

JayPa, just an idea but how about you stick to crunching numbers and let the good Doctor handle the forum management. It would seem that he has this shit down to a science.

If you took the time to actually read what was written – you will see this had nothing to do with yesterday except maybe it told me that I shouldn’t wait any longer to do what I have been planning on doing all along. This has nothing to do with the Judge or his comments but if you really want to know – he made several valid points that I agreed with as do many other members. And another point – this has nothing to do with you either. Specifically I typed at the top of the post that this is not directed at anyone and this was a long time coming!

Also FYI I am not really looking for a debate with this or asking for suggestions – but thanks coach!

Jay, while there are many who will refuse to acknowledge this, I do recognize that you have been singularly responsible for what has become the Main Street Buzz. However, as your "father figure", I encourage you to accept your triumph and also to accept the reality that is change.
