Very large Hispanic community.
I am pretty sure you guys picked East Pilsen, nearest to downtown.
That's fairly safe, lots of mixed communities now.

The farther west you go in Pilsen, watch out.
Seriously. Not good. Drugs. Gangs. Bad News.

Great food around, hoosierdaddy is right on.

Has he visited here? Hs he visited Pilsen? Big questions.

There is a high school (Benito Juarez) a block and a half tops from his address. High School brings the gangs out.

There is a bus #60 that should take him to/from school with ease that stops in front of his address. This is a plus. He should get a University-pass (U-Pass) for the CTA from his school, check into that.

He should be fine, but, why not have him live north?
I know downtown is $$$$, but some spots up north aren't bad ($$), and all the college kids live and party there. Just a thought.

Art institute is a great school if art is his direction. Pilsen area is not the greatest. He should look into Wicker Park which isn't too much further out and has it's own hipster community.

He hasn't visited here, he's only doing a semester and then a summer intern, he will have a U-pass from his school. He is staying at this address until feb (his friends apt), he will be looking for another apt while he's here, the problem is we need to stay around $450 per month so he prob needs to find a sub-let with another student. TY for all the info.

Does anyone think I need to be worried about this, probably going to anyways. He's not worried. the problem with him living downtown is $$$, he can't work while going their this semester, per the rules of his transfer program, so I'm looking at 450 for rent, aprox 125 for utilities and another 250for expenses where he will be staying now.
