In the northern hemisphere, the sun is closest on January 3rd (winter) and furthest on June 21st (summer).

Closer does not mean warmer and further does not mean colder.

Due to the tilt of the Earth, closer to the sun in winter results in less heat being absorbed.

The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of refraction.
