TAB review July 27

Rather than individual bets, it's been mainly about multi bets on the sports desk over the past 7 days.

By far the most memorable was the investment by a racing punter of $950. for a return of $480,176. This involved 6 horses, Siberty, Able Charm, Bonus Bond, King Victor, Miss Kaela and Tudor Bubble. They all won and the punter took any number of different multi combinations, which, naturally enough, were all successful Another multi wasn't quite so lucky with a $100,000 multi invesment on two of the Queensland teams in the NRL, the Cowboys and the Broncos. The Cowboys got the investor off to a good start but the Broncos, after staging a massive comeback against the Roosters, were beaten by a try 5 minutes out from fulltime.

The biggest individual bet of the week was $100,000 at $1.05 on the best 3 year old pacing filly in the country, De Lovely, winning at Alexandra Park. She only had to beat two others and did so quite easily.
In the NRL, the Melbourne Storm returned to winning form and in doing so they knocked over the second-placed side in the competition, the Penith Panthers.A couple of healthy bets on the Storm : $32,000 at $1.50 and $18,000 at $1.57. While on the subject of the NRL some losing bets to report. There was $26,260 at $1.33 on the Warriors to beat Souths, $15,000 at $1.20 on the St George Dragons to beat the Gold Coast, and $10,000 at $1.30 on the Brisbane Broncos beating the Sydney Roosters.

The women's Under 20 world football tournament in Germany has attracted a number of large wagers throught the week. We took $21,320 at $1.42 on Germany beating France ( winner ), $20,000 at $1.70 on Ghana beating Switzerland ( winner ), another $10,000 at $1.75 on Ghana in the same game, $10,274 at $2.80 on Nigeria beating Mexico ( loser), and $10,000 at $1.30 on Brazil beating New Zealand ( winner ).

Several other notable bets to report, all losers. $11,700 at $1.57 on Cincinnati getting a 1 and a half run start from Washington in Major League baseball, $9,000 at $1.15 on Almagro beating Istomin at the ATP tournament in Hamburg, and $8,000 at $2.00 on the Springboks beating the Wallabies in their Union test in Brisbane.
