TAB review Nov 30
Bookies get thumped: It was a week for the Bookies to forget with many punters getting big bets up, and many more striking some great value.
Punters are constantly backing their read of a live match. That was the case in the San Diego and Denver match, the final of Week 11 in the NFL. The Bookies accepted bets of $40,000 at $1.40, $30,000 at $1.22, and $20,000 at $1.35, on San Diego holding on to their lead. The inevitable happened and the cash was paid out on the 35-14 result. The punters had another Head to Head-Live Now win with the New York Jets beating Cincinnati, landing a $25,000 bet at $1.20. The All Blacks' fourth and final win of their Grand Slam was a good result for the bookies. As sports' fans they got to cheer an historic All Blacks victory, but also kept a bit in the pocket with Wales' late converted try thwarting Multi bettors that had banked on the $1.20 for a 13 & Over victory. One punter would have had a nervous few moments when Daniel Braid was sin-binned, but the champion qualities of the 2010 All Blacks came to the fore with a dominant period consigning Wales to another defeat, and the $1,272 profit found its way to the TAB Account that had bet $31,800 at just $1.04. One punter wasn't so lucky with a $20,000 loss on the All Blacks by 13 & Over. Another loss in the week for the Bookies was $23,500 on Barcelona ($1.80) beating Real Madrid, which they did emphatically, 5-0. They did manage the ocassional win however. The most notable was $20,000 on the LA Lakers ($1.80) leaving Utah with a win. That look sure to happen at quarter time with the Lakers up 33-17, but with the Bookies riding them hard Utah came back to win 102-96. Racing punters were out in force on the Group 1 Friday from Otaki, especially those that follow the in-form Murray and Bjorn Baker stable. The Cmabridge stable landed two plunges for punters, including $15,000 on On The Level ($2.50 into $1.80), and $6,500 and $5,000 on We Can Say It Now ($3.50 into $3.10) in the Group 1 Levin Classic. On Wednesday Finderskeepers landed the second biggest racing bet of the week- $7,700 at $2.20. The sporting week is already under way and it features the beginning of the popular HRV Cup, the Black Caps ODI's against India, and the second Ashes Test. While for racing fans the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes will capture the attention of punters with We Can Say It Now possibly lining up eight days after her dominant win over the three year-old horses.
