Ten Most Obnoxious Money Quotes from Sports Stars

From Filife website

Some good ones here

I don't listen to the refs. I don't listen to anyone who makes less money than I do." - Charles Barkley

By consistently blurting out sleazy lines, Barkley was able to keep his post-player career alive as an outlandish sports personality. Sometimes it pays (literally) to be a jerk.

"I'm the biggest fighter in the history of the sport. If you don't believe it, check the cash register." - Mike Tyson

With both a massive ego and a fictional vocabulary, Mike Tyson is a quotable gold mine. Unfortunately, his "cash register" has been empty since the late '90s.

"I've got a family to feed." - Latrell Sprewell

While seeking an extension to his $14.8 million per year contract, Sprewell thought it would help his cause to remind the Timberwolves how hard it is to support a family on a multi-million dollar salary. Come on folks, he deserves our pity.

"I'm tired of hearing about money money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok." - Shaquille O'Neal

It's a rare skill for someone to be so likeable while they brag, which is probably why Shaq is one of the NBA's most profitable pitch men.

"I'm enjoying the money, the big house, the cars; what ghetto kid wouldn't?" - O.J. Simpson

Thank goodness "ghetto kids" have OJ Simpson as their role model. His success proves that underprivileged youths can achieve anything by working hard, rather than stealing or murderin...oh wait.

"I don't want to be a superstar. I just want to make superstar money." - James Wattana

While this may seem like a legitimate goal, we should first consider James Wattana's signature sport: Snooker.

"Sure, NBA players make a lot of money, but we also spend a lot of money." - Patrick Ewing

As President of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), Ewing used the argument above to demand higher salaries for his fellow athletes. Great player, terrible public speaker.

"You can make a lot of money in this game. Just ask my ex-wives. Both of them are so rich that neither of their husbands work." - Lee Trevino

Trevino accomplishes three feats with this quote. First he disses his ex-wives. Next he belittles their husbands. Lastly he brags about his bank account, setting himself up for a third ex-wife.

"When you're rich, you don't write checks. Straight cash, homey." - Randy Moss

After mooning an entire stadium in 2005, Moss claimed he paid the fine with "straight cash" because "when you're rich, you don't write checks." Using that logic, he'll be broke in no time.

"I'm rich. What am I supposed to do, hide it?" - Lou Whitaker

In 1994, Detroit Tiger Lou Whitaker showed just how necessary the baseball strike was by showing up to a union meeting in a limo and blurting the above line. Word to the wise: never flaunt your wealth when you're asking for money.

the most obnoxious quotes of all time are shared by about 75% of all college and pro sportsmen, something like,

"I want to thank Jesus for the victory today...."

I've never heard an interview where a star player says, "Jesus just didn't want us to win today."

Why is that?

As a lifelong Tiger fan that grew up during that era, Lou Whitaker was basically my hero.
