A Ten Year Review Of NFL's Week #1
By Kramer:
Yes its me, not copied or pasted , but a time consuming gathering of statisticts of what has happend in the first week of the NFL over the last 10 years. One thing is for sure : Some things are certain and some are uncertain . That may sound ironic but after reading this article you should agree. First I'll bet you didn't know this statistic : On monday night football , in ten years , the favorite has only covered twice? Interesting. Now lets get down to some yearly statistics : In 1996 , there were 6 underdogs and 9 favorites . Of the 6 underdogs 4 were home underdogs , 2road underdogs Of the 9 favorites 6 were home favorite , 3 were road favorites . There were 3 games affected by the spread In 1997 ,things turned around with 9 underdogs , 5 favorites , 1 push there were 3 games affected by the spread Of the dogs , 4 were home dogs , 5 were road dogs . Of the favs , 3 were home favs , 2 were road favs . In 1998 things turned back to the favs with 9 favs , 6 dogs . Two games were affected by the spread. Of the 9 favs , 6 were home favs , 3 road favs. Of the dogs , 5 were road dogs , 1 was a home dog. In 1999 The dogs barked again with 10 , and 5 favs. there were 5 games affected by the spread. Of the dogs 2 were home , 8 were road. Of the favs , 1 was road , 4 were home. In 2000 there were 7 favs , 8 dogs. Of the favs 3 were home , 4 were road/ Of the dogs 1 was home , 7 were road. 2 Games were affected by the spread In 2001 :There were 8 favs , 5 dogs , 2 pushes. 2 games affected by the spread. Of the 5 dogs there was 1 home dog , 4 road dogs. Of the favs there were 4 home favs , 4 road favs. In 2002 : There were 10 dogs , 5 favs , 1 push. There was 1 game affected by the spread. There were 6 home dogs , 4 road dogs. Four home favs , 1 road fav. In 2003 there were 9 fav , 6 dog , 1 push. 1 game affected by the push. 7 home fav , 2 road fav. 1 home dog 5 road dog. In 2004 there were 7 dogs , 6 favs , 3 pushes 2 games were affected by the spread. of 7 dogs 3 were home dogs , 4 were road Of 6 favs 4 weere home , 2 were road Last year 2005 there were 9 fav , 7 dogs Of the favs , 8 were home favs , 1 was road fav Of te dogs 22 were home , 5 were road. So what does all this tell us? Well each year some home favorites will win , some home favorites will lose (The road underdogs will win) There's been 8 years of at least 2 home dogs winning . And usually whoever has the higher number winner last year will likely have a lower number next year (i.e. underdogs should prevail in week #1) Here is how each team has done the last 10 years ats week 1 ARIZONA - 4-5(had a bye week 2001 week 1) ATLANTA - 7-3 BUFFALO-4-6 CAROLINA-4-6 CHICAGO-6-4 CINCINNATI-3-7 CLEVELAND-2-5(SINE 1999) DALLAS-4-6 DENVER-7-3 DEETROIT-6-4 GREEN BAY-4-6 HOUSTON-2-2 INDIANAPOLIS-6-4 JACKSONVILE-8-2 KANSAS CITY-4-5-1 MIAMI-7-2-1 MINNESOTA-5-5 NEW ENGLAND-5-4-1 NEW ORLEANS-5-5 NEW YORK GIANTS - 6-4 NEW YORK JETS-4-5-1 OAKLAND - 1-8-1 : LoooooooooooL PHILEDELPHIA - 4-5-1 PITTSBURGH - 4-6 ST.LOUIS - 3-6-1 SAN DIEGO - 7-3 SAN FRAN - 4-6 SEATTLE - 3-7 TAMPA BAY - 4-6 TENNESSEE - 6-4 WASHINGTON - 4-6

The man says bet FOR Oakland LOL
It tells me those stat crunchers at the LVSC know their stuff. Back and forth, favorites, dogs, favorites dogs, they know exactly what the lines should be and each year are adjusting to insure that the trends are few or non-existent. The more I learn the more impressed I become with those guys |
