Tool album review

Track 1 - Vicarious
Rating =

This track is the song they play on the radio. It kicks ass from beginning to end. In the radio version they cut out a couple of minutes. The full length version is over 7 mins. Danny Carey is one of the most underrated drummers. This song showcases what he can do.

Track 2 - Jambi
Rating = 1/2

This is a great song that picks up right where Track 1 ended. It's got some rocking parts. Also has a funky guitar solo by Adam Jones. Like most of the songs on this album, it clocks in at 7+ mins.

Track 3 - Wings For Marie (Pt 1)
Rating = 1/2

Overall, this song was a bit too mellow for my liking. At the 4:20 mark they start rocking out but it was only for 15 sec. I would have liked to see more of that.

Track 4 - 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)
Rating =

This song is the longest on the album. Clocking in at 11:13! This song is long but not a lot of substance. It's kinda like listening in on a jam session. It does pick up towards the end of the song. Tracks 3 and 4 were originally going to be one song but they decided to split them up. It would have been a 17 min song if they didn't!

Track 5 - The Pot
Rating =

I love this song. Starts off with a great bass line. The song has got a funky beat to it. Different than what they normally do but at the same time, it still has that Tool sound.

Track 6 - Lipan Conjuring
Rating = N/A
No rating because it's not a song. It's some tribal stuff they felt like putting on the album. Tool typically puts some weird stuff on their CDs. It's more of an intermission.

Track 7 - Lost Keys (Blame Hoffmann)
Rating =

This isn't really a song. It has a voiceover of a doctor talking to a patient. It sets up the following song. The end of Track 7 blends right into Track 8.

Track 8 - Rosetta Stoned
Rating =

This is a very long song at 11+ mins. The song goes back and forth from mellow to heavy. Tool has mastered this. I think the length of the song takes away from it a bit.

Track 9 - Intension
Rating = 1/2

This track isn't anything special. It's pretty mellow from start to end. I'm not saying that all of the songs have to rocking. It's just not a song that you'll remember after listening to the album.

Track 10 - Right In Two
Rating = 1/2

This song is amazing. One of my favorites on the album. It starts off mellow but really gets going. I like the lyrics as well. It's about angels that are watching humans and are puzzled by the violence and greed. There's a great bongo drum solo as well. Like I said before Carey can drum.

Track 11 - Viginti Tres
Rating =

Not really a real song here either

I downloaded it last week to give it a quick listen. I just bought it yesterday and I only like 4 or 5 songs. Tracks 1, 2, 5, 10 and maybe 8, the rest is boring.

I'm a huge fan of this band and I'm somewhat dissapointed by their effort.
I might have to give it a couple more listens, it might grow on me. It's by far their worst CD to date.

I agree. Those tracks are the ones worth listening to. That's why I rated each track so people could buy the songs individually on iTunes if they wanted. Are you going to try and see them in concert?

I'm gonna try to get tickets on Stub Hub or E Bay. Very expensive here in Chicago. Tickets are going around $180 and up to $900 each. Absolute Bullsh*t.

I'm gonna wait and see if they go down. A man can hope!
How about you?

I tried to get tickets to the show in Oakland but was unable to. It sold out in 1 min and 25 sec. Small venue, only about 3000 tickets. Tickets on Stubhub went up to $1100 for a $66.66 ticket. Unreal. I hope to catch them next time around.

The venue here in Chicago holds 2,000 people. It sold out here in less that 5 minutes. Maybe they will tour again later in the year? Let's hope!
