Trash question

I recently put some cologne in a trash bucket that my room-mate and I share. I had originally put a smaller trash bucket but when he returned from the hospital he said lets put this bigger one there so more trash can fit. Now I didn't mind throwing the cologne away but since then he took it out the trash and uses it now I know this is grimy but by law does that cologne still belong to me since the trash was still in the room even if it was in his bucket. I was under the impression that he contributed the community trash can but that is still my trash. Its probably silly for me to take it away but there is a story behind why I need it back. Do I have the right to take my cologne back legally?

I understand that it could be viewed as abandoned property but My only argument is that it was still in the room

Of course. You should ask for it back immediately.

I need to hear the story as to why you need it back before I make a judgment on the situation
