Trip to Vegas

I'm planning a trip to Las Vegas in August. I have never actually been there. I plan on gambling and seeing some of the town. I would like to stay on or close to the strip. I know a lot of members here make trips out there every year. Where are some of the better places to stay? I know this thread has came up before, but it has been awhile. What does everyone think?

I stayed at the Hard Rock in October for a bachelor party.

was a great time, but off the strip.

PB & J Time, this might interest you:

At Luxor's Lax nightclub, it might take you 20 minutes to inch from the entrance to the back bar; but for Vegas weekenders thick crowds are precisely the draw. (It might also help that Christina Aguilera is a partner and has been known to drop in for cameo appearances, as have cast members from The Hills.) To rise above the fray, call ahead to the downstairs Noir Bar, a reservations-only adjunct accessible via elevator from the Lax entry foyer (702-262-4529). The long, brick-walled room feels like a members-only lounge, and the speakeasy vibe is enhanced by bartenders who have virtually every obscure ingredient at their disposal. Trustworthy friends recommended the Peanut Butter & Jelly Martini (with Hanger One raspberry vodka, Nocello walnut liqueur, Pallini Raspicello, peanut butter, rock candy syrup, and raspberries, all served in a peanut butter–rimmed martini glass). Those friends are not trustworthy anymore, but the drink has a loyal following. Hey, you're in Vegas—there's no accounting for taste.

Same, except is was late August.

Totally worth it for the pool, Rehab on Sunday is a must. Do yourself a favor if you go and get a cabana, it's worth it if you're gonna chill by the pool for the entire afternoon.

Worst sportsbook of any major casino IMO though. Embarrassing how small it is, plus the gaming area is kind of tiny too. We played most of our table games at other places - Wynn, Bellagio, Caesar's. Also took in most of our sports there too.

Although, good things can find you at the circle bar between midnight and 4 am.

I'm looking for the best bang for the buck. If it's worth spending a little bit more to stay somewhere I will. I guess the higher end I would be looking at are places like the Bellagio or Caesar's. Are they worth the money, or am I better off staying somewhere else?

For a budget I really like Paris or MGM Grand, higher end places are Aria(which just opened and is really nice) and Ceasars.

Soft spot in the heart for the Bellagio here.

Love that place. Poker room is super nice and the sportsbook is pretty money too.

Steve Wynn did it right over ten years ago with this place.

The Wynn is real nice, just wish you could get one of those white leather chairs in the sportsbook without having to sit in front of one of the monitors. Not an ideal place for a bunch of dudes to just sit around, get loaded and yell at the big screens.

Going next week, staying at The Orleans. Would rather be on the strip but ya can't beat 5 nights of free rooms in Vegas. I like the Orleans. It has everything and only a $6-$7 cab ride plus tip to NYNY. From NYNY you can hit a lot of hot spots via walking!

AC/DC baby, 9 days.

Cheap, on the strip: Imperial Palace. A lot of folks hate that place. I'm not a fan but it does have a bed/pillow/shower. When I'm w/ the guys, that's where we stay. Don't hang out there at all but its not too far from wherever you're at.

My favorite decent/nice places I've stayed, in order:

Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo, Orleans, NYNY.

Dumps, but cheap places I've stayed:

IP, Excalibur, Stratosphere

GL and have fun...August, huh? Wear shorts!

If you have never been before I would recommend staying somewhere on the strip. The area of Ceasars, Harrahs, Imperial Palace is a great place. Walking distance to a ton of different casinos and also a lot of entertainment close by.

If you are about having a nice room, then stay at Ceasars or one of the other high ends mentioned before. If you are about just having a place to pass out for a couple of hours, then just about any place will work fine...just look for the best deal.

Venetian is the best bang for the buck IMO.. location is key and the rates are reasonable.
