Is TV good or bad for kids?

I was having this discussion with a friend of mine the other day. I have a daughter that will be 2 in a couple of months and another daughter due in February.

My daughter has learned so much from watching cartoons it is amazing. We limit her TV time but have no problem with her watching TV but then others say it's bad for kids.

Anyone have opinions on this?

To much TV makes kids lazy and I guess if you don’t teach your kids – they could pick up some bad habits but for young kids – I think it can be a great and it does teach as well

tv is bad for kids... maybe some teaching dvd stuff, to teach them singing and stuff...

but i got that in my own family...

...my cousin got a boy... and when he came to the family meeting, he was singing retarded songs from tv commercials... and behaved like an idiot...

my cousine got a girl... and the 2 parents put alot of efford in raising her well, spending time with her, rather than putting her infront of the tv... so well behaved...

...if i ever get own kids... no tv...

I learned my appreciation for classical music from watching bugs bunny cartoons as a kid, so for me it was great.

I don't know if modern shows for kids have anything to offer other than the dangerous message that "you are special". How dare you Mr. Rogers! I hope you're burning in hell.

Tv is good but as you say in a moderate time , dont let them spend to much time on watching, cause then they wont even wanna go out and play with their friends cause watching it , believe me

This time of year it's hard to keep the kids away from the tv, but until I see it negatively affecting my daughter I don't see a problem with it. My 2 year old watches Ice age 3 times a day

TV content at specific hours are horrrrible for kids!
you got to really filter it out! but really young kids always watch those crappy cartoons which are better than those for teenagers!

however, adolescence kids woooooooooooooooooooooow watch out!

TV is a tough call, it depends on what the parents allow the kids to watch
Some shows can be extremly helpful in the teaching of children. The stuff that bothers me is the stuff geared towards teens MTV especially. Its so fictitous its annoying.

I think Dora the Explorer is cool because it exposes lil kids to a new language or atleast incorporates a different language beside english
