Want to save $20 a month ?

Been turning my PC off the last few weeks before I go to sleep.
Got my latest monthly power bill and its about $20 less than usual. Wasn't expecting that much of saving to be honest. Think its a keeper

Its funny u should say that Des. Because I had that going before. I guess with the CPU and HD still running it still sucks up the power, unless u are refering to making the CPU/HD go to standby, but not sure if u can do that ? I had just the monitor.

the way i have it set up in 'power options'

turn off monitor 30minutes
turn off HD 2 hours
system standby after 1 hour
system hibernates after 2 hours....

but i would think you would save more if you just shut it down...but you should set these power options incase you just step outside or something for a long time!

Great stuff thanks for that. Think I only had the monitor. Will do it right now.

The number one part in a computer to go bad is the power supply. Turning your computer on and off everyday will certainly reduce it's life so I never turn mine off. If you set your PC to go into sleep mode it will not use power during this time.

Everytime I set my computer to standby or hibernate, when it restarts, it's slow as shit. But I'm going to give it a shot again.

is it slow for just a little bit?

that might be expected because the computer saves all the info from RAM onto the harddisk when it goes to sleep....and it think it has to load all that back into RAM when it wakes up....so this should be expected...but once its running for a minute it should be good...

It stays slow enough to annoy the shit out of me LOL! I think the problem lies in laptops where the CPU will run at a slow speed when not in use. The Dell Inspiron 8200 had a problem with this where, once it went down to the slower speed it never went back to normal speed, unless it was restarted.
