Are we not the public ? Hate that phrase, I think I am.

Who is not "the public?"
I always see the phrase and don't understand it.
The books are not the public, but we just might be, in here.
The "squares" or bettors that only put a few dollars in at this time of the year are surely them.
I post my plays here and at other sites, that track the public opinion.
We may very well be the public?
Opinions here...

What are them?...chem trails in a grid like pattern...LOL !

"Public"- IMO, this is the group of people that are always on the obvious choice (usually favs). Basically, the bettor that pays no attention to %'s/line movement, they just bet the better team on paper

Yes, but how can we differentiate between them and the every day bettor.
If we go by stats on the most popular sites that we all use, we mix in and change the percentages, correct?

Basically, if you look at a place like sports **sights. Lets say you see a gm where 75% of bets are on Team A and 25% on Team B.. The "sharp" money would be on Team B. Obviously, books dont hold 75% money on one team, so the larger portion of money is on Team B (Sharp $$). i dont know if this helps ya or not..

I personally dont have a bunch of friends that look at the lines and do all the thinking everyday. They bet on a game against me once in a while and mainly go with the hometeam or favorites.
These are great sports fans that simply dont gamble.
That said, they don't look at all the betting sites everyday and night or watch scores.
They don't place picks with the sites they are members of each day and basically have nothing to do with the public opinion. We however may make up what is called the public opinion.
Most people either bet on games or don't bet ?

Percentage of bets does not equal percentage of money on a side, those sites are misleading IMO

Exactly, it does not take a brain surgeon to figure it out Romo.. The money is always gonna be close to split (books want the VIG)...You can find out where the sharps are by looking at % of bets placed..

I dont agree Rhenry, I would place a small % of my capping based on those #s from sites like that, for one, "sharps" dont post their plays PERIOD, anyone who posts their plays are us the public, regardless of which side you are on

ryhenry, not an argumentive thread here in case you thought I was being a smart ass with the post. Just thinking about it? An Iron City Beer think tank, if you will...LOL...
I realize we have the sharps. Like pasco, very serious.
I am not familiar with the site you mentioned either.
Cov**s post percentage right off in the hoops page based on WLine plays.
I play in WLine and see others here post they do also. The public percentage then includes my thoughts.

Thats actually my point...the blind public doesn't bet very much.
Maybe the SuperBowl and World Series, for the thrill, but not everyday or even once a month. If the normal public bet everyday, they would have to quit soon or go broke fast. The public in terms of betting are most likely ourselves.

the public is the betting player that makes up the majority of a side or total on a game. If your also on that side or total, then you are correct, you are the public! I fade the public opinion when it rises over 70%

Yes...I have learned that and it makes good sense.
Four bettors place a play...
3 place wagers for $20
1 places a wager at $1000 on the opposite team.
The public is at 75% which might look sweet ?
