At what age is a person considered a senior citizen?

Tomorrow I turn 55. Does that officially make me a senior citizen? Or what age do you think is considered a senior citizen?

When it comes to getting discounts at retailers and restaurants, I think 55 is the standard age I've seen. I myself have always thought of seniors citizens as 65 and above.

Actually, you are eligible for AARP when you reach 50 years of age, not 55, unless your spouse has already reached 50 and has elected to become a member your spouse can be put on the account.

At Denny's, you become eligible for the Senior Discount Menu when you are 55 (a good price, but more like a kids meal portion, which is great for folks like me that don't eat large portions anyways).

To be eligible for Social Security Retirement, you can retire early and receive a portion but not full benefits at the age of 62.

The theater in my town offers Senior Discounts if you are 60.

The Goodwill and other stores have Senior Discount Days for people over the age of 55.

My insurance company offers Senior Discounts for those over the age of 50 and an even bigger discount on auto insurance if you have a clean driving record and a slightly smaller discount if it isn't so clean, but you take a "safe driver" course.

The Humane Society in my town offers senior discounts for registering your pet when you are 55 unless you are disabled and are collecting SSI, then they offer the discount if you can produce an award letter to prove the disability.

Most national chain stores offer discounts to Seniors if they are 60 or above on given days.

Therefore, I would say that relatively speaking, it's 50 and above when folks start considering you a Senior Citizen.

At age 50 when you start getting all the AARP mail daily. I retired at age 62 only because I was eligible for VA Health insurance. Why wait til frull age and take a chance of dying. IMO the % favors early retiremewnt if you have health insurance.

Thank you falcon freak. Yea, I'm 66. I started playing parlay cards as a 13 year old freshman in High School. My Music and Humor and Cappers Mall will always keep me young. LOL.. I have been to 2 State Fairs, a Goat Ropin' Contest, seen buzzards fvck, and shaken hands with Jack Dempsey (have an autographed pic.). LOL
