Lightbulb What a difference 20 years makes

Was thinking about when I was 20 years old and how things were so different.

No iPhone - I had to get my scores the old fashioned way, from my sports pager!

Internet - If I wanted to read a sports column, it was in a magazine or local newspaper - not anything online

Most people who wanted to contact me - paged me. Yeah I said it, I had a beeper

Betting - I had to call Frankie the local bookie, had $200 limits and was forced to use his shitty lines. Now I can shop online for best line.

Listening to music - If I wanted to hear a song, I had to buy the "cassette" and I had to play it in my boom box.

Video Games - If I wanted to play a video game, I had to go to the arcade or play atari. What's this playstation thing do?

Driving - When I had to find a place or a house - I had to use a friggin map. What GPS!

What else comes to mind for the CM old timers?

Still had a fake ID and used to have to meet my bookie at a bar between noon and 1 using the lines from the NY Post

I was thinkin about this the other day.

When the paiger went off ya had to try and find a pay phone. And you always had to have change in your pocket to make the call.

Ever try to record your favorite song off the radio? lol

As soon as you hear the begining of the song you hit record and it never failed.... The frikin DJ would talk over the first part of it.

The home phone with the 30ft cord that always got tangled. Knocking things off the counter as you walk around the room.

Remember when you had to get your phone from the phone company? You went down to sign up for service and they handed you a phone over the counter, and you turned it back in when you cut off your service.

My parents got one of the 1st cordless phones back around 1985 or 86. The handset weighed 2-3 pounds, and it had this 2-foot long telescoping metal antenna which naturally broke every time you dropped the phone. You'd try to bend it back straight, but if it broke completely, you had to stand right next to the receiver to get the phone to work until you had time to go down and get a replacement.

The other thing about those 1st cordless phones is that they only had about 6 frequencies! Once 2 or 3 other families on your block got the cordless, you could hear everybody else's conversations.
