What do you look for in a Sports Forum? I posted this in safe haven to keep the sarcasm out, I'm looking for honest answers. What determines if a sports forum is successful to you? Some have made it clear they don't want news and multiple off topic threads in Main St lately, so I'm curious - what do you want?
- Good Posters? - Good Moderators? - Good Information? - Plays to Tail? - Friendly Banter? - Yahoo News? - Professional Gamblers? - Average Joes who like to throw $50 on a game to make it exciting? And just like in a sports franchise, is a forum only successful if they show a profit, or if they put a good product on the field? What makes you post here? What do you want more of less of? I know this thread has been done before, but it usually gets sarcastic responses and thread ends up hijacked - so give me some honest input - |

One thing sorely lacking though IMO...although Jack will disagree. The basement really really needs to come back. Just put a disclaimer on it that says...You are a grown ass man and what goes on down here may offend you but you chose to enter it so if it offends you then leave and STFU about it or something to that effect ![]() Maybe even have it as a sign up section or something

I come here to look at Victors nudie shots.
I like many of the cappers here. They do a bang up job and I like to look at what they come up with after I get my home work done. Site is ran first class and its continued to grow which means things can only get better. |

can't believe i have been on this site FIVE years!! searched for a couple others over that time, but honestly this is the only place for me. i hit one other place for some info and articles and they do have a forum, but i find its all full of crap so i rarely read. posters here are awesome, and funny too. i will never sign up for another forum because this one is everything i need. won a tshirt a couple summers ago from jack and still wear it proudly !! the only questions i might have are more historical ones as in:
--how long has the mall been in operation --who are the original members --and is there someway to have something like a tracking system of one's picks to see who is most consistent? --how do you get in the hall of fame? that would be a goal of mine --can we make the avatar size a bit larger because i am not good at re-sizing images and really dont want to try and learn |

imo the best forums are created by the best cappers. i look for one specific trait in people that i watch, follow and learn from.
i look for cappers who consistently win and have a posted record, period. Respect is earned imo through consistent build-up of a record and reputation, nothing else holds much water for me. |

I like the solid cappers on this site. I will do my research on what i'm gonna play and hope some of the good cappers are on the same plays. I also enjoy how there is a fantasy hockey league and baseball league. the fact you can trust people from a website holding your money through an entire sport season is awesome, and it is more fun to compete is fantasy sports with people you are familiar with than just 12 random owners on sportsline. keep up the good work this is a great forum

Jack, what I have a problem with is wading through all the posted plays looking for those posters that post their records. At first I thought maybe a sub-forum for each sport where you can only post if you are posting a record/YTD. That way if Im looking for a poster with a winning % Im not clicking on a bunch of threads with nothing but someones play.
But then I thought would it be possible to put some form of an icon beside the thread starter`s name indicating that they have a posted record inside?

Hmmm - off the top of my head, I am not sure how to accomplish this. I mean we could have one of the icon's mean "posted record" but it's still the poster who would have to select it and not sure if that could be managed well. Let me think if any other ways

you could have an option at the bottom of the thread for them to check if they have included a posted record......if someone is called out for checking the box when they havent included a record, you could take the option away from them.........

I would think most people get on here for plays, how long does it take to figure out who posts a record and who doesn't? I also think that alot of people pay no attenttion to records and like the big threads the ones that are 20**. Either way they are all in the mall to look at at your discretion. Its also getting a little ridiculous for those that continue to fuss about threads posted for points. In my few months there has always been IMO stupid threads (none by me) and I dont spend time if I dont want to.
I say keep it simple stupid and all that a small player or a big player is here. I have heard a lot about this basement and it sounds like fun. I will say this, it does take some time to understand the underlying theme here. For instance, I asked before I posted a record several questions so I wouldn't be offensive or stupid or obnoxious. I wound up all three because I posted my record for the entire season most of which wasnt recorded on here. I didn't know at the time just how critical it was to everyone. Maybe if there was a Cappers Mall list of do's and dont's it might help a new comer and if there is one already never mind.

Well of course there isnt one answer to everyone or else this would the most popular and only forum out there.
For my case of choosing Cappersmall. I started sports gambling with my college roommates in fall 2005. We all became pretty addicted and consumed most of our lives trying to figure it out. I would venture to v-insider to read their articles to understand different perspectives of sports betting which was always interesting. You would also see advertisements all over the place for tout picks. I never purchased any, but pretty sure they did. I am too self righteous and opinionated to tail someone or pay someone for a pick. Anyhow, one day on google when searching for free picks or a forum type thing. I came across Cappersmall. Pretty sure the main motive for joining was the fact that it was not a pay service and you could post your own picks. Of course everyone gets the dream in their head, if I can make it big here. I could be a pro like Brandon Lang or something. Maybe not all of you, but at least for a young 21 year old still in college and not in a professional career. You get that buzz or dream that you could. From that point forward, I just became hooked. It was like the experience I had reading articles at v-insider picking poster's brains and learning how they cap. And it was like a tout service, without having to pay. And you also feel like you could possibly make a name for yourself if you could go pro. For someone like myself, that is how I stumbled to Cappersmall. I have been to the other boards, but this is the first place I found. I am a big loyalty guy. After spending X ammt of hours on anything, it becomes a part of you. So my opinion is probably not the best since I just joined the first forum I came across and never put any energy into building relationships or a name for myself elsewhere. However, just thought you'd like to know how a guy like myself came across this board Dr. Jack.

More posters who have winning systems or post winners consistently.
