I don't really know how to quantify personal affect.

It's not like I cried and couldn't function that day, but there are a few that made me step back, and I'll never forget the exact moment I first heard.

Entertainers: John Lennon, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon lead singer...saw him in New Orleans a week before he OD'd in the French Quarter)

Sports Figures: (it may seem off the wall, but) Ken Caminiti, and I'll always remember the delay of the Cards/Cubs game and Joe Girardi tearfully telling the crowd that Darryl Kile was found dead.

I'm sure there are others, but those are the 1st that come to mind.

For me, it was Frank Sinatra. No one else came close. I met him a few times in situations that had nothing to do with entertaining. I remember sitting at a bar watching a world series game between the Dodgers and the A's with him sitting right next to me. (They used to play day games back then) Just another guy. Interesting person to talk to. He respected you for being yourself, not some star struck person sitting next to a celeb.

Not sure if any affected me personally but here are some names that came to mind

My youngest memory of an athlete was Thurman Munson. I was like 10 years old and I remember my dad being real upset.

Cory Lidle crashing his plane in NYC a few years ago was freaky and sticks in my mind

Sean Taylor - most recent & local

The one person who always has stuck in my mind threw the years was when that stalker killed Rebecca Schaeffer

Oh and pretty sure I remember everyone freaking out when Elvis died

Jerry Garcia's death floored me

For years my vacations were scheduled around the Dead's tours

Most recently Tim Russert's passing really hit home

When Thurman was killed I was young but something I'll never forget
