What has your favorite team done to your mental state?
Some fans become emotionally invested in the triumphs and failures of their favorite teams. Has your favorite team improved your joy of life, or ruined it.
NFL: Lions( I am numb, and have come to expect nothing. My excitement during Football season comes from my wagers, and fantasy sports) NBA: Knicks ( Same as above) MLB: Yankees ( I lived through the failures of the mid 80's to early 90's. Now I look forward eagerly to the start of baseball. I feel refreshed that the my hoops and football teams will be put in the rear view mirror. I look forward to a long summer of cold beers and pennant races.

HotStreak - How does one become a fan of the Yankees and Lions? Just curious
NFL: Dolphins - Dolphins always had a good team while I was growing up but it's been a long time since they have won anything meaningful. Up until a few years ago, we were the laughing stock. Think we are heading in the right direction NBA: Heat - Pat Riley has done everything for the Heat and fans have just waited for this offseason to make a spash. Anything less than a big one will be a big letdown MLB: Marlins - Marlins have won a lot but I've spent more time not liking them because of bullshit owners we have had. It's just extremely frustrating as a fan because we have a GM that is just amazing and we don't give him a real chance NHL: Panthers - Panthers always have and always will stink! I root as a fan but I only lose sleep in football season - lol

Broncos-What can I say SOS but they have had a lot of SB's
Nuggets-Will never win a championship as long as Stern is at the helm Avs-I don't follow them at all Crocks-They win a lot more now but the hurdle years almost made me go postal(No offence chris) Zooms do ok and CU makes me cry Some lean times but overall not bad.

Redsox: years and years, and years of gut wrenching chokes jobs (1978,1986,2003), and pitiful losses when they counted most. then 2004 changed it all. its been alot of fun being a TRUE redsox fan for the last 5 years, but would never trade in the previous 30+ for anything.
Patriots: years of nothing. then a huge upset in 2001 changed it all to become the team of the decade. with some cheating involved Celtics: was very spoiled at an early age. then the len bias, reggie lewis deaths changed everything and 20+ years of brief success until 2008! now its nice to be back up near the top until the big 3 are all in nursing homes or traded. Bruins: ugh! except for the Cam Neely, Ray Bourque years i have been frustrated time and time again with this team. bad trades, bad free agent pick ups, owner never willing to go the extra mile, and very inconsistent play with no heart. hopefully they get their shit together!

As far as the Lions go, my dad roots for the Giants, but is not sick over it like he is wth the Yankees. Growing up in CT, people are rooting for all kinds of Football teams. You have your pockets of Jets, Giants, and Pats fans, along with the standard contingent of Cowboys, Raiders, Steelers, and Dolphins fans. As I matured, and began to think for myself, I grew tired of my uncles(mom's side) telling me to root for the Cowboys. My friends were all Steeler fans, in fact, way tooo many. My pops liked the Giants. I had to make a stand, and it would have been too easy to jump on the 49ers bandwagon. I had to choose a team that could build from nothing. Something I could be a part of, without feeling like some glad handing hanger on. It was 1990, and I loved this Barry Sanders guy. Maybe it was the Chris Berman recaps on Sports Center where he let out that high pitched "whoop" every time Barry melted someones knees before calmly handing the ball to the ref after a 70 yard TD scamper. I declared to my family and friends that I was officially a fan of the Detroit Lions. 20 years later, with nothing to show for it, one of my buddies will politely ask me how the Lions are doing. I make a scrunched up face, and the conversation moves on to something else. |

It cracks me up when my friends are almost suicidal when their team loses. I don't get worked up over something I have ZERO control over. Bummed for less than 1 hour. I used to get worked up and throw shit but I'm over that (older...)
Lakers: Only time I cried over a loss was when Magic retired the 1st time. Yes, real tears. Cowboys: Jerry Jones would fukk up a wet dream. Jimmy Johnson should still be there....we should trade Romo to the Vikes for another 3 rings. ![]() Dodgers:
