What is the W-L record for Pro Sports Figures who "guarantee" a win?

Daniel Sedin: "We'll win Game 7"

2011 Stanley Cup finals: Daniel Sedin of Vancouver Canucks guarantees Game 7 win - ESPN

This made me wonder of all the times a professional sports player / coach has publicly (in the media) guaranteed a win, how many times did his / her team actually come through?

Will Sedin make good like the Rangers' Messier 17 years ago?

Joe Nameth did the same thing in the super bowl & it worked for him. Mark Messier said the same thing in the New Jersey Devils series way back when as well & it worked.

I would say that there would be more guarenteed wins then losses, but that is only a guess.

Great day in Packer history.

As far as the original question, I think Western Playboy skewed the numbers in favor of losses.

People conveniently forget the truth behind the Namath guarantee was that no one knew about it until after the game. His comment was to one person and wasn't published until after they'd won.

Unless there was only one person at this gathering, you conviently forgot.

"I was at the Miami Touchdown Club dinner at the Miami Springs Villa, and I was up at the mike, and someone yelled something nasty from the back and I said, 'Wait a minute, let's hold on. You Baltimore guys have been talking all week, but I've got news for you, buddy. We're gonna win the game. I guarantee it.'" The quote set off a media storm and the stage for what has become one of the most memorable Super Bowls in the game's history

NFL Films said that wasn't the way it happened, and that there was no media storm, because the quote wasn't widely known before the game, and that it was told by one present reporter after the game. The general public had not heard the guarantee.
