White House Officials Debate Releasing Photographs of Bin Laden’s Corpse

The Obama administration has photographs of Osama bin Laden’s dead body and officials are debating what to do with them and whether they should be released to the public, officials tell ABC News.

“There’s no doubt it’s him,” says a US official who has seen the pictures and also reminds us that OBL was 6’4”.

The argument for releasing them: to ensure that the public knows and can appreciate that he's dead. There is of course skepticism throughout the world that the US government claim that it killed bin Laden is true.

The argument against releasing the pictures: they’re gruesome. He has a massive head wound above his left eye where he took bullet, with brains and blood visible.

In July 2003, the US government released photographs of Saddam Hussein’s dead sons Uday and Qusay Hussain but not until after they’d been touched up by a mortician, making them look not quite real.

tough call there. Ultimately I would guess that they would. I suppose the thinking is that to do so would somehow make him (or his photo) even more of a martyr, but the ones who hate us already hate us, and this won't change that.

Score one for the good guys today

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

I'm sure there is probably a full video of the raid, too. Maybe even a couple. Those Special Ops guys wear helmets or face sheilds that easily, and often do, contain a camera, either recording onto a flash drive or transmitting to somewhere else. I'm sure some commanders or someone had to be watching the raid remotely, to guide the raid or give orders. We'll never see that, though.

Yeah we were talking about that this morning. You know they have those videos but they will stay classified for years. Too bad though because that would be better than the video of Saddam getting hanged.

It will be debated for years

I think they need to show us the pictures as that will confirm to everyone he is dead. I am not saying anyone doesn't believe, but until you see proof, there will be a small percent of doubt.

Also, I have read that the group he was associated with & other terrorist groups won't believe he is dead until they see pictures & proof for themselves.

Well, to me there is only 1 alternative and that is to show the world the pictures. They could also have a warning before hand that they are gruesome in nature & people who can't stomach things like that, turn away.

quit playing the part of the contrarian retard

this guy was responsible or thousands of deaths and his death is a strategic and symbollic victory. That is why there is the question of whether or not to show it? Im not sure what is the right thing to do but im sure that you are a simpleton moron who has proven uncapable of processing any kind of complex thought
