Think it would be different if you had elite in one category and just amateur or average in the other two categories

no - I would consider any NBA player an elite athlete.

my point was a professional athlete at the highest level. No matter how much we think someone sucks (as a pro) you have to say they are an elite athlete b/c they are getting paid in that elitest of leagues... I understand there are flukes and perceived exceptions, but lets not dwell on those...
