Who lives in a big city and actually loves it?

Left RI this morning and was heading to Lexington for a couple days instead of back home so took a different route and went thru NYC(I-95 and over GW bridge) Have driven this way many times in the past but its been many years and now I remember why I found a different route. How can anyone stand driving in traffic like that everyday? I could never fight that kind of traffic everyday and I wasn't even actually IN the city...

Lived in Portland, San Fran and Dallas. Was single and had the time of my life.

Being married w/ 3 kids, I'll take my little town of 100k.

EDIT: get kicks out of people here talking about "traffic"...well, instead of taking 20 min to get across town it takes 30...

WCI, I am curious. Are you sitting in traffic everyday going to and from work? And why do you enjoy it so much?

I am talking about bumper to bumper, actually stopped on the highway traffic. I live in a town with 100K also and there is some traffic at times, but not the kind I am talking about like in the big cities. We had a stretch this morning where it took us about 15-20 minutes to go 2-3 miles. Maybe Im getting old, but I just couldn't do that every day...

WW. as BE said...i dont own a car. have not had one since 2003. I dont need one. i work from home, but even when i was working in an office public trans is everywhere and so are taxi's.

when i first moved to chicago i worked 30 miles outside the city and that commute was brutal, but it was the same for me in Boston and Atlanta....

My company corporate headquarters is in San Fran and we also have a large office in NYC. While I like to visit both cities, I couldn't imagine living in either. Too much of a hassle to get around. I actually turned down promotions because I just couldn't stand living in either place. Everything is so freakin' expensive, crowded, and traffic sucks.......I'll take my boring midwest only takes 20 minutes to get across town city all day....

Cities are the best, but traffic sucks. SLC is the smallest city I've lived in, only a couple million people in the area, but traffic here is nothing. Love it! Even when I worked, I could get from the burbs to downtown in 10 minutes sometimes.

People here complain about traffic, but they've never seen traffic. Try to drive in Atlanta around that f'n loop, Miami near the airport, or I-10 or 610 heading into or out of New Orleans during morning or evening rush....backed up from the High-rise bridge to Morrison 100% of the time....takes an hour to go 7 miles.....and forget about the interstate coming down from the airport.

use public transportation man ... big cities have subways and trains and buses that go EVERYWHERE ... and if not, always possible to take a taxi ... but again, subways and buses takes you everywhere downtown, and trains will get you into cities.

WCI...where in Boston did you live? Don't miss the commute coming from the south shore and 93.
