Who remembers' settling up ' every Wednesday ?

ok , the good ole days
here was our 'fun' ritual.

My buddy and I would head out ( 20 miles ) to our bookies bar to settle up and also get this weeks spread sheet.

On the way home after a few and still sipping a few more, we would give our own picks and analysis of some select games.

Our Man would open at 8 AM on Sat - close at , whenever, and then open again sunday

We would call in - saying this is so and so ( some bookie even had client numbers ) and then say a dollar on number 23 , 2 bucks on 27 - We called them doyles ( 6 pt teasers ) give me a 50 dollar doyle on 31 and 33 , 10 dollar parlay on 3- 27- 31 . etc

Ah yes, fun times

actually we had 3 - one we would settle as mentioned above- every Wednesday
and the others we would settle when it was a ' significant ' amount one way or the other

heck two of them that I called every weekend for years, I never even met face to face- either a drop off , or mail

Have had the same guy for over 30 years. When I was young we settled up every week. Then became a 2 grand either way settle up. Now once a year after the Super Bowl no matter the number. Trust is a good thing on both sides.

Interesting, Around here in NEPA when betting with a local we call bets a "Timer" 5 timer or 5 times =$27.50 to win $25.00.....100 Timer = $550 to win $500.
