Thumbs down Whoopi defends Mike Vick

DEF don't watch the show, but it was top on yahoo.com.
GET A NEW HOST ALREADY!!! Of course she'll defend him, Oprah probably does too!

So much for the sedate alternative to Rosie O'Donnell on "The View."

Whoopi Goldberg used her first day on the daytime chat show Tuesday to defend football star Michael Vick in his dogfighting case.

Goldberg said that "from where he comes from" in the South, dogfighting isn't that unusual.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges last week, admitting that he provided money for a dogfighting ring that operated on his Virginia property and helped kill six or eight pit bulls. Vick grew up in Newport News, Va.

Goldberg was selected by series creator Barbara Walters to replace O'Donnell, whose stormy tenure on the ABC program lasted less than a year.

In the Vick discussion, Goldberg served notice that she won't shy away from controversy.

Co-host Joy Behar looked horrified at Goldberg.

"How about dog torture and dog murdering?" Behar asked.

For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg replied, and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges.

"I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn't appreciate," she said.

Vick has been suspended indefinitely by the National Football League and will be sentenced on the dogfighting charges in December. He apologized and asked for forgiveness upon entering his plea in federal court last week.

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

not that unusual where he is from? neither is dealing crack, popping off dudes for air jordans, etc, but all of that is still a crime and shouldnt be condoned by anyone

I was thinking the same about dealing crack etc...

I hate when things become a race issue though, it's so stupid nowadays. You can tell Vick was a spoiled dude his whole live.Always got what he wanted througout school because of his athletic skills. People like that usually dont fair well, either they dont know better because they have never been told "no" or they think somebody will help them out of the jam. Why? because he is use to that treatment, so was his brother and even more so because Michael was already a NFL player. We see where Marcus is

How can you defend a man that plead guilty?

I'll tell you one thing. If Vick doesn't get banned for life it will be hard to respect the NFL anymore. If Pete Rose gets banned for gambling Vick should get banned for his crime which is much much much worse. It's hard for me to think that people who would take part in something like this have feelings for anything and I don't believe saying your sorry cuts it. Your only sorry because you got caught. BAN FOR LIFE
