Question Will sports gambling ever be legalized nationwide?

Any thoughts?

this issue is similar to the marijuana issue. everyone does it even though it is illegal. the authorities almost never go after the small guys.

No.....it will never be legalized.

When the government OKs it, it brings legitimacy to the industry as people will then view gambling as an acceptable activity. Just think of the implications and social impact it would have on society.

That is why crack, cocaine, prostitution, etc etc will NEVER be legalized.

It would be nice and convenient if they do. If some states have the lottery it would be no difference to have machines set up to take wagers on games. I do agree with iggs111 that it probably won`t happen for most of us when and if the time comes for legalizing it.

I think it will. This country was built on immigration. And, to start, it was built based on freedom of religion. These people tended to be major conservatives, but with immigration coming from all over the world and world influences, I think it will become legal. Texas/Dallas is considering it (of course, I'm sure the Govt wants a slice, but the ideal is it would keep Texas money in Texas instead of going to Louisiana). Gambling is a normal part of many cultures, especially Asian (so many of my Asian friends tell me).

Shit, we already have the lottery. Granted I don't really like the gov being in control.

I don't think it will ever be legal in the US because it's is looked down on. They make a huge deal out of sports gambling, however poker has become a bigger problem in my eyes. They glorify poker on a few TV stations and it has become a national epidemic. Kids are playing at an early age and will be hooked for life. Plus we also have the lottery everyday in every state. Isn't that a form of gambling?

At least I live in a state where we are grandfathered in and can have sports gambling if they pass a law.

but a lot of those are legal in other countries...and there are no bad social implications having those legalized...those countries have fewer reports of crime as well

i doubt it ever will...mainly because those in charge of this country still rule based on biblical based theories and beliefs...if there were non religious based people in the government, then perhaps it could be...change is difficult to accept...and it has been illegal for a long time...people too often hold onto tradition just because that is all they have ever known...which then leads to not being able to think about the pros behind legalizing such stuff...they only know the cons...people tend to think too tautologically and things things that exist illegally and will always be there, still will not become legitimized...goes for other things that really are not damaging a country
