wireless routers

Guys I have a d-link from about 4 years ago. Seems like for some reason my wireless is slow when i'm at home. At the time the guy told me that it doesnt matter what kind of routers you have, the speed is the same, is that true? I dont know much about computers so hoping one of you geeks can help me out.

Someone may be stealing your signal slowing you down.

If you have the router encrypted it will help with the speed issue.

i have checked on that...i always look at the light to indicate how many computers are using the router and it always fits to my household..usually 2 which is my desktop and my laptop. I'm wondering if maybe i get a new router it would help or basically all the routers put out the same speed?

Go out and buy a Netgear Prosafe with 802.11g....encrypting can slow you down, but with the netgear allows you to create access lists so that only the MAC addresses that you specify are allowed on your network.... Have you plugged in directly to your D-Link...is it alot faster that way? Or the same?

to keep it simple...yes...but what I would confirm first is that it may be your internet service provider....what service do you have?

Just do a search for the netgear on google or go to CompUSA or Bestbuy and they will give you a good replacement. What model is the D-Link that you have?
