Woman denied entry to NZ for being too fat

ROWAN TRESIZE, 33, was denied entering New Zealand on account of her being too fat. When her husband RICHIE, 35 first tried entering the country, they were told that they were both overweight and were a potential burden on the health care system.

Since then Mr. Tresize has lost 2 inches from his waist, thus meeting the criteria set out as part of his visa application to work as a technician. But it hasn't been so easy for his wife who is desperately trying to shed the pounds before Christmas. If that doesn't happen, they will forego their move to New Zealand.

Robyn Toomath, a spokesman for New Zealand's Fight the Obesity Epidemic and an endocrinologist said that obese people should not be victimised, but agreed with the restrictions.

"The immigration department can't afford to import people who are going to be a significant drain on our health resources."

"You can see the logic in assessing if there is a significant health cost associated with this individual and that would be a reason for them not coming in."

While there is no definitive number on how many people have been denied entry into New Zealand for similar reasons, the Emigrate New Zealand website revealed that many people had been banned for being obese.

to this story.

if only our own country would wake up.

the slobs that lumber around the mall in motorized carts (not because they're crippled, but morbidly obese and past the point of caring) just make me

x2 props to NZ

this isn't even a national health care issue for me.

it's a "this makes me sick" issue.

morbidly obese people with no hope, no energy, no desire to lose any weight loaded with excuses and reasons for why they are the way they are, but never any desire to improve on things.

this is not a generalization, but there's no denying we're the fattest country on earth and if you've ever worked in any kind of a group environment, they are generally the ones taking the most breaks, the longest breaks and producing the least.

all that fast food does eventually make one dreadfully lazy.
