World Record Vertical Jump
We've got a kid here in Midvale, UT attempting a record for vertical jump today. Right now it's live cut-ins on Channel 2 as he builds up to it. He'll be jumping from a standing position up to a platform of weights and tires.....jumping straight up and standing briefly on the platform. He's up to 58" right now and will be going over 60.5". Kid was a high school basketball player and is now a Cross-fit trainer.
I'll post a link to it if they post the vid on the news site. It made me want to look up other jumps for comparison and found this list..... Highest Vertical Leap World Records How do you stats compare against the best nba players vertical leap? (Random Fact: The average NBA vertical leap is a measly 28" ...the good news is, you'll usually be able to jump higher than this after completing just one vertical leap program! Missed on 3 attempts at 60.5". Got his toes onto the platform, but couldn't stand up and hold it.
Will be trying again after a break.

Okay, so apparently the kid set a world record with the 58" platform. The guy who did 60" did it with the Vertec (those colored bars that you jump up and knock with your fingertips) which is clearly not as hard as jumping up onto a platform. (Not that any of us could challenge either one.)
Kid is attempting again shortly. 60'5" will be his personal best and a world record no matter how you slice it. Rooting for him to represent for all us 6-foot-tall white guys around the world!

Yes. White. Says he never ran track or did any jumping, just played high school basketball.
He hasn't attempted again. Psyching up, I guess. About to try now. Hope they post a video.

Tried 2 more times.....just can't hold his stance on top. Still, very impressive. Jumping straight up and putting the soles of his shoes on a 60.5" platform is pretty amazing. No one else has even done that.
FWIW, his warm up jumps from 48" on up to 58" looked like cake.

Here's a link to the vid they posted. Wish they'd shown the 56" and 58" jumps that he landed, but this is just some failed 60"s. Oh, well, a record anyway.
Please ignore the "local-news-ish-ness" of the production quality and definitely ignore the shirtlessness of our wacky morning feature reporter. http://connect2utah.com/content/video/?cid=84072

You may know them as the Utah Jazz and select members of the Utes' various sports teams.

am shocked...37 percent of real salt lake's roster is black...and football isn't really a sport that has a high representation of blacks...am flabbergasted that they have that high of a percentage

The difficulty between a run up jump and just a standing jump is huge. I can do 58 inches with a run up, probably could do just half of that from a standing position, so difficult.
