Cool Would you rat out your friend?

The one thing that surprises me about the whole steroid thing is why no one really talks about why there is not more loyalty. I realize Andy Pettitte comes across as a nice man and he has often been quoted as saying he is a religious man. Well no one is perfect right and we all make mistakes right? Pettitte obviously was not perfect.

And although I understand why people respect him for telling the truth – I don’t really understand why he would turn on his “friend”. You can come clean, tell the truth and still be loyal can’t you? I mean why was it important for Andy Pettitte to come out and say they had a conversation about HGH 10 years ago. Couldn’t he have been just as honest without mentioning this?

If myself and a friend does something wrong and one of us gets caught, do you give up the friend?

Does anyone consider Pettitte a rat? Or is it just a simple thing where it’s the FBI and you have to tell the truth?

I understand it is the FBI but again “not remembering” would have been okay. This is not a murder investigation and I am in no way suggesting that Pettitte should have lied because I am not saying that. But it is obvious that only Pettitte, his wife and Roger knew about this conversation and I just can’t believe the government was interrogating him talking about this general conversation 10 years ago. To me that says, Pettitte just came out with it on his own.

If that’s the case, I really don’t understand why it was necessary?

Does anyone see this point?
Does loyalty matter?
Would you rat out your friend?

what was "in it" for Pettitte was that he NOT get indicted by the Feds for either perjury or, if he had refused to answer their questions, obstruction of justice. Not losing your career and avoiding a stint in a Federal prison, can be quite the motivator.

You think if the situation were reversed, a douch-bag like Roger Clemens would go to jail for his "buddy" Andy ?

Puhleeeze.

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

What question do you think they asked to make Pettitte tell them he had a conversation 10 years ago in the privacy of Roger's home when he mentioned HGH?

Like I said in my original post, there is no way I was saying Pettitte should lie but he obviously volunteered some information. I think there is a difference. Was that necessary?

they had McNamee's statements already. All the Feds did was ask him whether it was or was not so. Once they asked whether or not he had ever spoken with Clemens about it, he was locked in. Andy says he would walk away from baseball, but that SIXTEEN MILLION DOLLARS the Yankees are paying him this year is what he will live on for the rest of his life. That is ALOT of reasons to come clean.

no matter how many times he pitched for the Yankees, Roger Clemens will always be a Red Sox

Coming clean about yourself is one thing and who cares what McNamee said. All Pettitte had to say, is sorry I can't recall. Why is it accepted that the guy ratted out his friend? That is my question. I understand the $16 million, I understand he feels better about himself now but where I come from, you just don't rat out your friends and family.

It's not like Andy saw him take steroids or HGH, reflecting on a simple conversation was not something that needed to be done. JMO

Let me use this analogy for a minute

Two teenagers are smoking pot and one gets caught by their parents. Does that one kid now call the other kids parents to get him caught too? It just doesn't make sense.

Again lying is one thing and I would never expect Andy to lie. With that being said - would you trust Andy Pettitte with something sensitive that you didn't want anyone to know?

Where is the loyalty from a friend?

Yankee fans loved this guy and thought of him as a Yankee, no longer a Redsox. Why have Yankee fans turned on him? I can't understand that either.

you are assuming that Andy simply "volunteered" this information. Do not underestimate the Feds. They know alot. Much like a cross-examination by a good trial attorney, they do not ask a question that they do not already know the answer to.

he was never a "true" Yankee. The way he threw the bat at Piazza (I was there); the way he accepted all those retirement gifts and then went on to pitch for Houston; the way he raped the Yankees last year; etc...

Once a Red Sox, always a Red Sox.

Again though - there were two people in the room when this conversation that Andy "misremembered" (lol) about, Andy and Roger. Andy told his wife as well. How would the Feds know about this conversation? I don't think McNamee was aware of that particular conversation. I mean in a regular court of law, you can't tell me that something like that would even hold up. Would it?

But back to the original question - no one seems to think Andy is a rat and I am curious why that is?

The Yanks sure cheered for him as if he was a "true" Yankee especially when winning the world series, right?

you are apparently faulting Andy for NOT commiting perjury. The fact that no one else was in the room does not change the fact that the statements were made. Some people consider an oath, under G_d, to tell the truth, to be a solemn thing. Andy is obviously one of them. That should be applauded, not criticized.
