Would you want to be in Tiger's group on Thurs/Fri @ The Masters??

I think this is an interesting situation......I have played golf for about 12 years now and I've played a few competitive tournaments here and there. I tend to think I step my game up when I am playing with an opponent of equal or better skill than me. I find it more challenging and therefore I think it brings out the best in me....

This circumstance however, is a bit different. I don't think I would want to be paired with someone that will have a huge following with the possibility of distractions throughout the round. There is always that one person who says something or yells a comment just to stand out and make a point.....Tiger will draw all of these things. It will be up to the general population at Augusta to determine the atmosphere around Tiger's group.

Here is my question....do you think it will benefit the players who are paired with Tiger on Thurs/Fri opening rounds, or hinder their ability to focus and play???

It will depend on the player. Guys like Mickelson, Goosen, Couples, Els, Harrington wont be bother at all. I would be very surprised if 2 of these guys are not paired with Tiger in first 2 rounds. My guess is Mickelson and Harrington. They will not put just anyone with him.

Don't they normally put an amateur in Tiger's group?? That would be VERY interesting....

The only time folders want to be in his group is the final round. All folders have said it is difficult when paired with tiger...regardless of the round. This will be marginally different at best...at the Masters

just saying, in years past this has been the case....obviously the circumstances surrounding the Masters this year are a bit different.

I dont think the Masters has any set standard for opening round pairings like some of the other majors. I believe the US open has the defending champ paired with the reigning amatuer champ every year, and I know the PGA has the winners of the 3 other majors in opening rounds, but the Masters has no set stanard. Although you may be right that an amatuer has been paired with either Tiger or the defending champ before, but dont think its a regular thing.

No, there is a committee im pretty sure that sets the pairings for the Masters and there is no set standard on who gets paired with who. Last year Tiger was in a group with Stewart Cink and Jeev Milka Singh, neither of which has even won a major let alone a Masters.

I would love to be in Tigers group cause that would mean I was a professional golfer and I'm pretty sure I could do 2 chicks at once if I was bringing that kind of coin.

I would be utterly shocked if Tiger and Phil were paired together.

They usually stagger these two to not only alleviate crowd flow but to offer both morning and afternoon excitement for the galleries. They're the two most popular players by far, can't have both of them playing at the same time until Saturday/Sunday.

playing in the masters by itself is so stressful that few players really can get through 2 rounds let alone 4 without choking several times

even when it isn't the masters, almost every player does worse when playing with tiger. the reasons are many but most state that he is such a good player that it is a distraction to see him play so well that they become "fans" on the course and sometimes lose their focus

combine playing in the masters with playing with tiger and you have a recipe for disaster. only padraig seems to play well alongside tiger...but even paddy has his usual final round choke to look forward to and that has nothing to do with tiger, it's just his MO

nobody should want to play with tiger, but this year does not make a difference in that regard imo.

the course itself and the pressure of the masters destroys 90% of the golfers chances by itself, tiger just makes it worse for all of them

Very good point, but as its been said, these are special circumstances this year. So I would not be shocked if it did happen.
