Wrong ball used for 7 minutes in the Oakland/Illinois game.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP)—From his first shot, Demetri McCamey knew something was wrong. The ball just didn’t feel right.

Turns out the ball was an undersized women’s ball, something the officials finally fixed after seven minutes of No. 16 Illinois’ 74-63 victory over Oakland on Wednesday night.

“After my first shot I thought, ‘This can’t be right,”’ McCamey, who finished with 30 points, said about the women’s ball making it into the game.

The first seven-plus minutes were played with the size 6 ball. McCamey noticed the odd ball early but couldn’t convince the officials. Illini center Mike Tisdale finally did.

“I’ve coached 33 years and that’s a first,” Oakland coach Greg Kampe said.

Play quickly restarted with a size 7 men’s ball—about an inch larger and 2 ounces heavier—but neither team’s shooting immediately improved.

To me, a ball is a ball, a puck is a puck etc. As the article said, the change of balls didn't change the shooting. It is the person that throws the ball, shoots the puck, shoots the ball that make it go in, not the ball itself.

However, it is still funny to me that a women's ball made it into a men's game. Maybe whoever did it, was telling the teams you play like a bunch of girls?

a ball is a ball... disagree - shooting a basketball is all about muscle memory... that means repeatedly using the same ball... now after a while, sure you may have something..

a puck is a puck.. agree.

Fascinating story.

A smaller size ball used by women symbolizes her need for security, and rebellion against male promiscuity

The bigger the ball, the more sperm (see bonobos), and the more promiscuous the species. Thereby resorting her vagina to merely a mediator for competition of sperm. Since a woman's ultimate goal is to degenerate the Y chromosome (which she has succeeded to some degrees of consequence, certainly in some enterprising species of butterfly to the tone of 97% sex-ratio domination, for in humans the Y has been reduced to a mere stub whose only form of survival is found in the almighty and powerful gene SRY, otherwise known as "the masculine gene"), the female has ingeniously suppressed her ovulation and rate of fertilization. To combat, the Y chromosome possesses an arsenal replete with chemicals contained in the seminal fluid that manipulate a woman's brain functions and pleasure stimulants, which women in turn have built up an immunity to these undesirable proteins secreted in her body in order to reduce the proliferation of the Y chromosome. Virgins don't have orgasms because they have yet been exposed to male ejaculate. Once exposed, and the more potent the seminal fluid, the more the corresponding female recipient has sexual urges, obviously leading to more children and proportionally to an increased number of Y Chromosomes in the gene pool. Its an interlocus, intergender evolutionary arms race.

Or men are just by nature stronger.

Women have smaller hands and can handle and shoot the smaller ball much better.
There is a huge difference. You can tell immediately just as if you know it when you play with a 9 foot rim. totally different feel in your hand to have a smaller ball.

My sister used to work for the LA Sparks owned by the Lakers at the time. High quality women's basketball is fun to watch.

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF PICKING GOLF WINNERS
1. CLOSER with CHARACTER. Certain guys see the finish line and cross it and others are destined for second place.
2. RELAXED CONFIDENCE, FOCUS and a HUNGER to win. It's a mental game and their mind has to be in the right frame with a determination and focus. As Harry Vardon said: "To play well you must feel tranquil and at peace. I have never been troubled by nerves in golf because I felt I had nothing to lose and everything to gain."
3. COURSE. Does the course layout favor the strengths of the golfer and does it expose their weaknesses. Previous form can change immediately for those who feel comfortable on a course and its greens.

the difference is huge lordcc ... you either never played bball much, or were never any good ..... i would always refuse to touch the size 6 womens bball when others would use them to try and dunk since they were easier to grip... complete ****s up your jumpshot.

a ball just isnt a ball...otherwise they wouldnt make different sizes...if the NFL size ball was replaced with a CFL sized ball would a ball still be a ball? theres a huge difference in weight and size...same with soccer, thats why there is different sizes such as "size 5" regualtion

To be honest, I could care less what kind of ball it is, a ball is a ball. I played both hardball & softball, and I was able to throw both of them the same & hit as well.

The fact people are getting real sensitive over this is surprising to me, but to each their own.

CC... I don't think people are sensitive about it... just think they all disagree and have experienced difference.

hardball v baseball... I bet in your prime, you could throw a hardball AT LEAST 10mph or 16 Kph fast than you cold a softball.. and prob more...
