WTF is this world coming to.
Local story..
Students and faculty prepare for a tough day back to school Wednesday after a senior at Canandaigua Academy committed suicide in a school bathroom Tuesday morning. Canandaigua police say Thomas Kane, 17, shot himself during fifth period. Authorities also discovered ammunition and Molotov cocktails belonging to the senior. The community is learning to process this information. Part of that process involves understanding why authorities found what they did in the hours after the Canandaigua Academy senior committed suicide. “Mr. Kane also had 30 rounds of ammunition on his person and his locker,” said Jonathan P. Welch, Canandaigua City Police. “A short time later it was discovered there were two IEDs located in Mr. Kane’s locker.” Canandaigua police responded to the high school after two students discovered Kane’s body in a bathroom around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities immediately evacuated the building and that is when they found the weapons. Students who had driven to school Tuesday were not allowed to take their cars home. All students were ordered to take the bus home. “This young man made a decision that did not entail causing harm to others. I think that’s critical no matter what may have been other types of options or other things he was thinking about,” said Donald Raw, Jr., Canandaigua superintendent. “I had no clue anything was going through his mind like that. I talked to him Monday in class and he seemed absolutely fine,” said Kelly McWilliams, student. From the school parking lot hours after the incident to a local church, students are doing what they can to understand the tragic end to what started as what students expected to be a normal day at school. “We talked for five minutes and then I went to my English group,” said Joseph Vohs, student. “I really was shocked because he doesn’t seem like the type of kid that would have that sort of stuff.” Police say they have not found a suicide letter or any other indication from Kane to explain the weapons or his suicide. This remains an ongoing investigation and authorities are talking to his close friends and classmates to try and find more answers. Students coming back to school Wednesday will start class two hours later than usual. Faculty and staff are coming in at normal time to meet before greeting the students in the classrooms. |

Where is this place at?
Also, all school shooters should follow his lead and just kill themselves. I applaude the young man for ending his life only instead of trying to "be famous".

Teen's Suicide Investigation Begins
Canandaigua's police chief said Thomas Kane, the student who committed suicide in Canandaigua Academy Tuesday, visited Columbine-type websites on his computer.
"We did find some disturbing documents and we're in the process of reviewing Mr. Kane's personal computer, to find out what triggered the event," said Jonathan Welch, Canandaigua Police chief. "And hopefully we can prevent it in the future and also, that extra layer of protection to ensure that no other students were speaking with him and had the same motive." Investigators are trying to put together a timeline that will include incidents that the chief says led up to the school shooting, a possible cause, and a future course of action. The police chief believes the sawed-off shotgun Kane used was his father's. After reviewing surveillance video, inspectors say it is clear that Kane brought Molotov cocktails and ammo to the school smuggled in his backpack. They believe he left school to retrieve the shotgun from his car. The school says there are no immediate changes planned for security policy. Canandaigua Academy students started their school day two hours late Wednesday so that faculty, staff and teachers would have a chance to debrief and talk about the resources that the school was going to make available to them, as well as to students. Despite the increased police and counselors present, some students would rather have stayed at home. "I think we should have gotten a day, you know, to honor his memory and to grieve. Get it out of the way," said student Derek Livelsberger. "Sometimes, a lot of kids don't want to talk about it, they just want to be home with their parents and just relax for the day, you know?" added student Elisha Van Norman. Wednesday, the students started their day in 5th period classes, which is when many of them were evacuated by police Tuesday and told to leave everything except their keys. "It is important to note that he made a decision not to use those other things. That's a decision I have to look at as a reflection on how he felt about the rest of the school," said Superintendent Donald Raw, Jr. "He had many people that were his friends and his acquaintances, and we're concerned about them and we're working with them today." Students described him as a very nice guy, a funny guy, and say this was very surprising. Superintendent Raw confirmed that Kane had been on a long-term suspension for some type of drug use, but he had just gotten out of suspension and was on track to graduate. |
