XBox 360

Does anybody know the difference between the $300 XBox and the $200 XBox Arcade? I'm planning to buy the XBox Arcade, but I don't want to buy a shitty product.

Thanks.

You'll be fine. They lowered the prices. The $300 has more GB known as memory. The $199 I believe it has the hard drive already with it. Just go to Wal-Mart ask them if it has a hard drive if they say yes buy it.

Get the one that has the hard drive.. if you dont you will have to purchase a memory card in order to save your games which runs you like 50 bucks..

I'm pretty sure the $200 one doesn't have a hard drive. The $300 one has a 60gb hard drive and headset. I just bought the Pro ($300 one) and we love it. We have so much stuff saved on it already I'm glad we're not messing with memory cards anymore.

The serious answer: The $200 does not have a hard drive, but a memory unit is included. There is more than enough memory for game saves on tons or games. If you never ran into a problem with memory space on the original xbox, there's no way you will with the Arcade.

Bumping up to the $300 model gets you the hard drive. This is useful if you plan on doing the online gaming, and downloading updates and demos from Microsoft's online setup. You would also need the hard drive if you want to play older, original xbox games, because you have to download the elements that make the 360 backward compatable for each game.

A plus for the Arcade version is that is actually a newer board and chipset. It runs somewhat quieter than the other 360 models and is more reliable! The 360's are well-known for the "red ring of death" that will force you to send it to Microsoft for 6 weeks for repair, as long as the warranty is still good. Naturally, treating the console right (turn it off when not using it, make sure there is air flow around it) will decrease your chance of breakdown on any model. The new chipset is less susceptible to the errors that lead to problems.

My advice: buy the Arcade because it's cheaper and more reliable, and there is plenty of memory included, along with free games. If you plan to play and download from xbox live, you have no choice, buy the $300 model. However, you can always buy the Arcade, then purchase a hard drive later if you decide you want it. That works out to about the same price, but you will have the better quality chipset.

GL!

So if you have like an old 80Gig hard drive laying around (Western Digital or Maxtor), you can throw it into the arcade version?

Yeah, like Bisket said. But I was talking about the ones sold separately specifically for the xbox. They are from 20 gigs to 120 gigs and snap right on to the back.
