xbox 360 red light kiss of death

So got my son an xbox 360 and within an hour the power broke - went out and returned it already this morning (didn't get another yet). It has this red light on the power box and I guess this is a common problem.

As I research this I see this is a very common problem - so what is the deal with this? I know some of you are the gaming experts.

Jack,

As far as I know,(hearing from friends) the Xbox 360 likes to over heat and when you do that you blow a fuse in the system. I think this is a common problem. Is there anything that was blocking the fan or cooling system on the 360? That could have caused it to over heat faster. Also, do you have it on top of other electronics?(ex, stero receiver, CD player, TV Set-top box?) That could also cause it to over heat faster having it buy a lot of other electronics.

I don't know from first hand experience but this is just what I have heard from my friends that own one.

Hope this helps,

Nick

Yeah he had it on top of the TV I believe and it did overheat fast. Funny thing is he always kicks my ass on Madden and I was finally winning one and BOOM -

He is out looking for another one now. I was just surprised it was such a common problem.

Thanks Nick!

LOL, yea I had my first madden online experience yesterday. I got my ass kicked 49-0. The guy also was being a dick about it and calling time outs with under a minute to go so he could run up the score. I almost got the last laugh and caused a fumble with 6 seconds left, but a defensive linemen picked it up and got to the 10 yard line and got tackled from behind when time expired to preserve his shut out. I have a lot of work to do.

Hope you get your problem fixed. also here is a link to the over heating issues.

To late for that plus we got him like 4 games. But we did return it and the new one (knock on wood) does not seem to have the same problem. All is well

yes but if you factor in the add-on hdplayer you're looking at almost same price. And after this year I'm afraid the games will be the same if not better on ps3.

This thread is about 10 months old any
progress with this?

Had my 360 for about 1yr and a half and last week it started to
freeze after 20 minutes of use and now red light.
The one I have has that fan in the back as well.

Thanks!
