Young guns of the future?...
Wanted to share a story about a couple of local teens who played in a 2 ball best ball golf tournament this weekend in my area. The tournament attracts the best amatuer golfers in the area and these 2 kids(Adam Wood,14 and Nathan Pirtle,13) decided to move up in class and compete against the big boys for a change. They have both been 2 of the best in Indiana for their age groups over the past couple of years. Nathan played in the Optimus tournament at the PGA national Resort and Spa in Florida earlier this year. The best junior golfers in the world compete there.
Anyway, I went out yesterday to watch them. The leaders shot 59(-12) earlier in the day and the next best score was a 64. These 2 kids went out and shot 65 and they made bogey on a par 5, that kept them out of the championship flight. For some reason they only put 5 teams(the 59 and four 64s) in the championship flight and the teams at 65 were in the first flight. Today, they proceeded to shoot another 65 and win their flight! Probably was best for them since they had little chance of catching the top team who shot 63 today for a 122 total. The kids were at 130, which is probably in the top 3 or 4 for the entire field. I won't see all the final scores til the paper comes out tomorrow. Pretty impressive results for a couple of young teens going against some very good golfers( I've played with a lot of these guys and many of them are scratch golfers) And what made it even more impressive was yesterday was the first time either one has ever even seen the golf course!!! I expect to see both of these kids on the pro tour someday, they are both that good.
